One of the first things I hear from clients when they come to me for meal prep is “I just want to cut carbs.” And I completely understand why 🤷🏽♀️ carbs have gotten a bad reputation! But let’s talk about why that mindset might actually be working against your goals.
Here’s the truth: your body NEEDS carbs. Carbohydrates are your body’s primary source of energy. When you’re working out, carbs fuel your muscles and help you perform at your best. When you’re losing weight, having the right carbs in your diet helps preserve muscle mass, keeps your metabolism running efficiently, and prevents that dreaded energy crash that makes you want to quit altogether.
And here’s what most people don’t realize is…carbs are NOT just bread and pasta. Carbs include fruits, vegetables, legumes, oats, and yes, even that beautiful asparagus on my plate right now! 👇🏾
The goal is never to eliminate carbs. It’s to choose the right carbs in the right amounts for YOUR body and YOUR goals.
