In my continued effort to feel creative again I went for a walk on a trail by my house. My goal was to photograph all the colors that inspired me. March in Alaska is basically brown and snow. I wasn’t sure what I would find. I know this is not my usually content but I feel like documenting my journey back into photography!

This winter has been very hard for reasons no one needs me to explain. If you have a conscience you’ve been feeling it too. It has also been one of the coldest winters I’ve ever experienced. Lack of sun, single digit temperatures, and the state of the world has made a cocktail of sadness for my mind. Creating feels pointless. Creating feels privileged. Creating feels exhausting. These flowers and the sunshine have been the first time in months I’ve wanted to even take a picture. I hope they bring a small light to you too.

“Stuck”

Inspired by feeling so creatively stuck while living in Phoenix. Stuck in my mind by the limitations I put on myself. My capacity to create ebbs and flows. If you’re feeling stuck, know you are not alone. When I feel stuck I revert back to portraiture. No props, no posing, no concept. Just me, a model, and a space that makes me feel something. Living in Phoenix that was moody lights in a dark parking lot.

Returning to a favorite shoot and memory with this post. Kristen wanted to see a show in San Diego and I had been wanting to execute this shoot at the Sand Dunes. We drove 3 hours and arrived 30 minutes before sunset. Running up sand dunes with all our equipment and a heavy ass acrylic box of real plants.
For this part of the shoot I was inspired by Charlize Theron’s character Furiosa in Mad Max. I was actually happy that Atv tracks were in the background because it fit the theme perfectly. So much preparation and money went into the ex*****on of this shoot.
We drove another two hours, ending our night dancing away with Peggy Gou and friends. 🍄🧚🏼‍♀️

I’ve been a canon shooter for over a decade. This last year I made the switch from a less snappy, spray and pray camera to be more intentional with the direction of my work.

Before anyone comes for me I’m a believer that the tools you have in front of you are all you need to create!

I’m more so speaking to the shedding of certain things to open the doors you’ve been wanting to walk through for years. The thought of not being able to take my camera to any event and execute it without a thought was truly terrifying to me.

It has really been the season of walking away from things that don’t serve me.

I want to be more intentional, slow down, and think about what I’m shooting. It has been an adjustment switching to medium format and manual lenses but the results have been blowing my fu***ng mind.
I think as artists we assume everyone else has it all figured out. We are truly all just finding our way the best we can. 💙
