Coprinus comatus, the shaggy mane, lawyers wig! This strange mushroom is one of my favorite mushrooms. For 3 years I hoped to find one and photograph it, despite being very common I was never in the right place at the right time until this year! The way these mushrooms release spores is by deliquescence which basically means to melt away. The cap begins to melt into a black ink. They are so cool and creepy and I’m so grateful I got to see some this mushroom season 🥺

These caps self digest within 24 hours so when we first found these they had just popped out of the ground. My wife would stop on her way to and from work and send me updated pictures. That’s a whole love language in our household. 🍄‍🟫🤍🖤

I was mesmerized by Leah’s cozy home, art, and music. I got a tiny concert during this shoot 🥹 Leah is so incredibly talented and it was a pleasure to capture this part of her journey.

Mythical Fern Nymph won yesterday’s vote! 🌿
I found this hat a year ago and knew I would shoot with it someday. The ferns here in Alaska are truly so magical. I wanted the final images to resemble a Gucci or Ralph Lauren ad. I also wanted the images to feel enchanted, playful, and cozy. ❤️❤️ It’s been a year since I created art for myself so I hope you enjoy this set. 🫶🏼

It’s been four years since Roe v Wade was overturned. Four years since making this art to express how I felt about it. Now I’m watching reels of women saying they’d be ok with giving up their right to vote….voluntarily.

so I guess I’ll go back to making art that doesn’t affect change and you’ll keep scrolling. The American Dream.

In my continued effort to feel creative again I went for a walk on a trail by my house. My goal was to photograph all the colors that inspired me. March in Alaska is basically brown and snow. I wasn’t sure what I would find. I know this is not my usually content but I feel like documenting my journey back into photography!
Thanks for sticking with me. ✌🏼
Does anyone know what the yellow dots are on the 3rd image? Yellow Lichen?

This winter has been very hard for reasons no one needs me to explain. If you have a conscience you’ve been feeling it too. It has also been one of the coldest winters I’ve ever experienced. Lack of sun, single digit temperatures, and the state of the world has made a cocktail of sadness for my mind. Creating feels pointless. Creating feels privileged. Creating feels exhausting. These flowers and the sunshine have been the first time in months I’ve wanted to even take a picture. I hope they bring a small light to you too.
