Are you still allowing people to approach you or gain access to you based on an outdated version of who you were?

You've elevated the way you think.

Your values and boundaries are clearer.

You've raised the bar on your standards.

Your education has expanded and your wisdom and expertise has deepened.

Your entire presence, the face card, the wardrobe and how you carry yourself has evolved.

You've done the work and have the receipts to prove it yet I continue to meet women who have accomplished all this and still accept bottom-shelf offers, opportunities, and treatment in careers, relationships and everyday lives.

Your value today demands a premium.

Refuse to allow people to approach the woman you are today based on what they thought of you yesterday.

And for the people who take their sweet time to finally recognize your value? By the time they catch up, the person they're finally recognizing may already be yesterday's version.

Tell them, yesterday's price is not today's price.

I thought finally getting a seat at the table was the goal, until I realized I needed to have something meaningful to say.

Newly promoted and asked to step in for my Director at the last minute, I found myself at the head of the table of a major client meeting, surrounded by an alphabet soup of credentials and some of the organization's seasoned professionals.

The client begin asking me direct questions that I had not had the opportunity to review.

I was completely caught off guard.

I left that meeting mortified but with a lesson I have carried into every room since: access may give you a seat, but preparation gives you a credible voice.

Some people are only committed to the version of you that made them comfortable.

When you begin to grow beyond that version, they may say you've "changed," or are acting different, like growth was never a part of the agreement.

Your continuous becoming WILL disrupt relationships built around who you used to be.

Stop explaining your evolution to people committed to an outdated understanding of you. Some relationships will adjust. Others will reveal that you have outgrown them.

Keep becoming anyway.

We are returning to where it all started.

When Refining Images began, youth development was at the heart of our work. We brought etiquette, confidence, leadership, and personal-development programs into schools, colleges, nonprofit organizations, and community spaces.

Now, we are returning to those roots with an expanded vision.

Formerly known as the Little Rock Excellence and Leadership Academy, L.E.L.A., our nonprofit organization has been renamed the Arkansas Academy of Etiquette and Excellence. The new name reflects both our broader reach and the depth of the work ahead.

Because this is about far more than the fork and knife.

Dining etiquette matters. Knowing how to make an introduction, enter a room, engage in conversation, and conduct oneself with confidence matters. But etiquette is only one part of preparing a young lady for life.

The Academy will also address identity, self-respect, emotional intelligence, communication, character, digital discernment, personal reputation, leadership, and the social pressures young women are navigating every day.

Registration is now open for our 2026–2027 academic-year cohort for girls ages 11–17.

Participants will meet on the first Saturday of each month from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Each session will explore an area of our academic curriculum, including:

• Modern and cultural etiquette
• Confidence, identity, and self-respect
• Communication and social intelligence
• Digital etiquette and personal reputation
• Personal leadership and character
• Dining etiquette and personal presentation

The academic year will culminate with an Academy graduation, fashion show, and formal dining experience—a celebration of each participant’s growth, confidence, poise, and achievement.

Enrollment is limited. A one-time $75 enrollment fee supports curriculum resources, instructional materials, and program supplies.

I am so honored to share that Refining Images® LLC has been nominated for the 2026 MED Week (Minority Enterprise Development) Emerging Minority Business of the Year!🎉🎈

I am deeply grateful for this recognition because Refining Images was built out of my own need for the services we now offer, from purpose, obedience, and a sincere belief that how we show up in the world matters. This work has always been about helping professionals and emerging leaders understand that image is more than just how we look. It is how we communicate, lead, and show up in every space.

To be nominated as an emerging minority-owned business is both humbling and encouraging. It reminds me that the work I’ve been building and growing quietly, intentionally, and consistently has made a tremendous impact.

We're continuing on with tips during National Business Etiquette Week!

One of the most overlooked professional skills is knowing how to properly introduce people.

A thoughtful introduction does more than exchange names, it communicates respect, awareness, and social intelligence.

A simple rule to remember:
"Dr. Solomon, I'd like to introduce Rhonda Johnson, our administrative assistant."

Not:
"Rhonda, this is Dr. Solomon."

Higher-ranking individuals in a professional setting receives the introduction first. This small courtesy acknowledges hierarchy while maintaining respect for everyone involved.

It's National Business Etiquette Week, and contrary to popular belief, etiquette is not about being rigid or pretending to be someone you're not.

Etiquette is simply the art of making other people feel respected.

In a world where people are trying to get noticed, your smart soft skills will always set you apart.

I'll be sharing tips all week to help you instantly elevate your presence.

1. See the person before the title.
Before trying to determine someone's importance or scanning for credentials, make eye contact, smile and acknowledge the person standing in front of you.

2. Stand for introductions.
If someone walks up to your table at an event or meeting to introduce themselves to you or even come to say brief hello and you are sitting, stand to greet them. Do not ever shake hands or carry on a conversation with anyone in this position. It communicates respect before a word is ever spoken.

3. Use their name before the conversation ends.
A person's name is one of the most important words they hear all day. Using it demonstrates attentiveness and leaves a lasting impression.

Real work happens behind the scenes not captured in a photo.

This season has been about becoming, and I am realizing more than ever that becoming requires you to filter your life in a very real way.

Who you give access to matters.
What you entertain matters.
What you allow to stay in your life matters.

It's not always easy to be honest about who or what no longer fits. There were invitations I had to look at differently. Conversations that did not feel aligned anymore. Spaces where I had to ask myself if I was truly growing or just staying comfortable.

Growth is not always about adding something new. A lot of times it is about refining what is already there and having the discipline to make different choices.

And it is a choice you have to keep making. Not just once, but over and over again.

Choosing who you are becoming over who you have been.
Choosing alignment over familiarity.
Choosing growth even when it feels uncomfortable.

If things feel different for you right now, if you have been pulling back, if you are becoming more selective, that does not mean something is wrong.

It may mean you are finally being intentional about your life.

That is part of elevation.
