Most people assume that if they learn enough about money, they'll eventually feel confident.

But that's often not how it works.

I've worked with people who are financially successful on paper and still feel anxious, guilty, overwhelmed, or stuck when it comes to money.

Why?

Because money is emotional before it's logical.

The way we think, feel, and react around money is often shaped by experiences, beliefs, family messages, and life events that have nothing to do with spreadsheets or budgets.

This Thursday, June 18th, I'll be joining the Purse Strings Money Talks webinar for a conversation about what actually creates lasting financial confidence.

We'll explore the emotional side of money, how your relationship with money develops, and what it takes to create more peace and clarity around your financial life.

I'd love for you to join us!

Have you ever noticed that two people can earn the same income, have similar expenses, and yet feel completely different about money?

One feels confident and at peace.

The other feels anxious, stuck, or like they're constantly falling behind.

Often, the difference isn't their financial situation.

It's their beliefs.

Many of us are operating from money beliefs we learned years ago—beliefs about worth, success, security, spending, saving, or what it means to be "good" with money.

The challenge is that we rarely stop to question whether those beliefs are actually helping us.

In my newest blog, I walk through some of the most common money beliefs that keep people stuck and how to begin creating a healthier relationship with money.

If you've ever wondered why financial advice doesn't seem to "stick," this might be the missing piece.

One of the reasons I was excited to partner with Purse Strings is because they understand something I've seen for years:

Many women don't need more financial information.

They need a safe place to talk about the emotions, beliefs, and experiences that shape their relationship with money.

That's why I was honored to contribute this article for the Purse Strings community.

In it, I explore how your money story develops, why you may still feel "not enough" even when you're doing well on paper, and why lasting financial change often starts beneath the budget.

If you've ever felt confused by your own financial behaviors or wondered why good advice hasn't created the peace you're looking for, I hope you'll take a few minutes to read it.

I'd love to hear what resonates with you. 🙏

Wendy Wright explores how your money story shapes financial stress, confidence, relationships, and self-worth, and how financial therapy can help you rewrite old patterns.

"I'll feel confident when..."

When I have more saved.
When I'm debt-free.
When I make more money.
When I finally stop worrying.

Many people treat money confidence as a destination they'll eventually reach.

But what if confidence isn't something you arrive at?

What if it's something you're already practicing in small ways every day?

After working with clients for years, I've noticed that real money confidence rarely looks the way people expect.

It's often found in the willingness to have difficult conversations, make thoughtful decisions, learn from mistakes, and continue moving forward without requiring perfect certainty.

In this week's blog, I share six signs of real money confidence that may help you see your relationship with money differently.

You may be further along than you think.

When people talk about student loans, the conversation usually focuses on numbers.

But in my work as a financial therapist, I’ve seen how often the deeper struggle is emotional.

For many people, debt carries:
• shame
• grief
• regret
• anger
• fear about the future
• emotional exhaustion

And when those feelings go unacknowledged, people often freeze around money instead of moving forward.

That’s one of the things I discussed in my conversation with The Financial Diet podcast.

We talked about why financial therapy can be such a powerful missing piece for people who feel overwhelmed by debt — because healing your relationship with money is about more than spreadsheets and budgeting strategies.

The full episode explores:
• why debt can feel emotionally consuming
• how shame affects financial decision-making
• why people avoid money conversations
• how to create a sustainable financial plan while still living your life

If money has been taking up more emotional space in your life than you want it to lately, I hope this conversation helps you feel seen and supported.

Do you ever wonder:

"Why do I still feel stressed about money even when things are improving?"

I hear this more often than people realize.

You can earn more, save more, pay off debt, or work harder and still feel anxious, guilty, avoidant, or overwhelmed around money.

Because money isn't always just about numbers.

Sometimes it’s also about your relationship with money, old money beliefs, and patterns you’ve carried for years.

I wrote a new blog exploring why this happens and two simple places to begin if you want more financial peace and less stress.

Not sure what a discovery call is or whether it's even for you?

A discovery call is simply a free 20-minute conversation where we can talk about what has been feeling difficult around money, what you're hoping could feel different, and whether working together feels like a good fit.

No pressure and no commitment attached to it.

This may be a good fit if you've found yourself thinking:

"I think about money all the time."

"I know what I should be doing, but I still feel stuck."

"I feel overwhelmed when I try to deal with it."

"I keep repeating the same patterns."

"I’m tired of trying to figure it all out on my own."

Many of the people I work with are smart, thoughtful, caring people who don't need more information — they often need support, clarity, and space to understand what's really going on beneath the surface.

If that sounds like you, I'd love to connect.

Many of us believe that peace is waiting on the other side of the next financial milestone.

“I’ll feel better when I pay off the debt.”

“When I finally make more money.”

“When I reach a certain number in savings.”

And those milestones absolutely matter.

But after years of working with people around money, I’ve noticed something:

The next milestone often brings relief…

but not always peace.

Because peace doesn't necessarily come from a number.

It can come from feeling grounded, trusting yourself, understanding your relationship with money, and feeling emotionally safe around it.

I wrote a new blog post about why financial milestones don’t always create the feeling we expect — and what can actually help create a healthier relationship with money.

Read it here: https://wendywrightfinancialtherapy.com/why-financial-milestones-dont-bring-peace/

Do you ever feel like you keep running into the same money struggles… even when you're trying your best?

Maybe you avoid looking at finances.

Maybe making decisions feels exhausting.

Maybe you feel guilty spending money, anxious saving it, or like you're constantly waiting to finally feel “okay” around money.

Many people assume these are discipline problems.

But often they’re connected to deeper emotional patterns.

That’s why I created the Money Shadow Quiz.

The quiz helps uncover some of the hidden beliefs and patterns that may be influencing your relationship with money — sometimes without you even realizing it.

Understanding your patterns can create more self-compassion, more clarity, and a better understanding of why money feels the way it does.

A lot of people think financial stress is just about not knowing enough.

But many of the people I work with are already intelligent, thoughtful, and capable.

What they’re carrying is something deeper:
fear,
avoidance,
shame,
overwhelm,
burnout,
or years of emotional experiences connected to money.

So even after trying budgeting tools, financial advice, podcasts, or “being more disciplined,” they still feel stuck.

This is one reason financial therapy can feel so different.

Because we’re not only looking at numbers.

We’re also looking at the emotional patterns underneath them.

During a free 20-minute discovery call with me, we begin exploring your relationship with money in a compassionate and practical way that actually produces the change you wish to see in your life.

Sometimes people leave the discovery call feeling relieved simply because they were finally able to talk honestly about money without judgment.

If you’ve been curious about financial therapy…
or wondering whether this kind of support could help you feel more grounded, confident, and emotionally at peace around money…
