Thank you to Forbes and writer Chadd Scott for this powerful feature on the International Folk Art Market and why it matters.

As the article notes, last year’s 165 IFAM artists employed nearly 12,000 people, the majority of them (83%) were women. Behind every handmade piece is not only heritage and skill, but livelihoods, community, and a deeper sense of human connection.

Chadd beautifully captured that IFAM is about more than what we buy - it’s about how we buy, who we buy from, and the world we build in the process.

Don't miss your chance to visit the Market and meet the artists July 10-13 in the Santa Fe Railyard Park!

The International Folk Art Market 2025, the largest folk art market in the world, takes place between July 10 and July 13, 2025, at Santa Fe Railyard Park.

Thanks Authority Magazine for sharing our work at the International Folk Art Market in this article about leading with purpose. They asked me the 5 things I think aspiring social entrepreneurs need to do to create a purpose driven business and without a doubt I think they include:

1 . Know Your Why! - What problem are you solving, and why does it matter?

2 . Build in Community - Surround yourself with people who believe in your "why" and what you’re trying to do. The more you collaborate, the bigger your impact will be!

3 . Value the Process - Behind every product or service or event is a story and a whole lot of effort. Taking time to appreciate how things are made or done builds stronger connections with the people you work with and the people you serve. Also, take a minute now and then to appreciate your efforts and what you've built!

4 . Be Resilient - Nothing ever goes perfectly, and that’s okay. I am a bit of a perfectionist so sometimes I dwell too much on what is going wrong, but resilience is about figuring out how to keep going when things get hard. Be persistent and you will learn from the challenges, adapt, and get stronger.

5 . Just Do It! - The only way to figure out what works is to get started!

2024 started with a new job and new adventure as the Executive Director at the International Folk Art Market in Santa Fe, NM. Brad and I will be spending a lot of time traveling between states this year but the opportunity to help lead this amazing organization that supports artisans worldwide as the organization celebrates 20 years of service was too good to pass up. My advice for the new year - take a chance.

My invitation for the new year - come to Santa Fe for the market! I'd love to see you there July 11-14. The market gets 15,000-20,000 visitors so we need 1,500 volunteers to serve 167 folk artists from 51 countries and welcome market goers. I'd love to have friends on my team for the event so consider a visit to magical Santa Fe this summer!

Thanks to my friend Keith Recker at Table Magazine for this article about my big move.

What if all artisan businesses took advantage of On A Mission's free carbon footprint assessment and then offset it with local reforestation? So many artisan communities are on the font lines of dealing with the effects of climate change, even though they have contributed the least to causing it. Since most handmade work is already a low carbon activity, international shipping is the biggest offset necessary for most artisan product importers. Wouldn't it be great if those flights created local forests?

Harper Poe I love the clear line you've drawn between the artisan sector and the work of ON A MISSION. What if all artisan businesses took advantage of their…

As consumers, a good way to evaluate is to question whether the claims are backed up with evidence. This article contains a few ways to look at the claims made by companies looking to be more eco-friendly.

Virtuous proclamations and campaigns from clothing brands can often amount to greenwashing, or in some cases, “clearwashing,” where the information doesn’t tell consumers much.
