The last fruit is in.

Today we welcomed Cabernet Sauvignon from Coombsville, Napa Valley. The clusters came in deep blue, still wearing the natural bloom on their skins — the look of fruit that has just left the vineyard.

With this arrival, our 2026 harvest comes to a close. We began in August and finished in early October, the earliest finish I can remember. Harvest has its own rhythm each year. This one moved quickly.

Now the work shifts to the cellar. We will follow the fermentations, taste as the w**es take shape, and give them the time they need to become themselves. The picking is finished. The vintage is just beginning.

If you are in the Livermore Valley this weekend, come by the tasting room and we will tell you how the year went.

A new season at the table.

Fall light, a ripe pear, and a bottle of Occasio Heritage 2023 Pinot Noir between two glasses. An invitation to settle in, pour a little w**e, and let the evening unfold.

We’re bringing fresh ideas to the table this fall: new ways to enjoy our w**es, seasonal discoveries from Flavor Lab, and occasions to gather at the w**ery.

We look forward to sharing them with you—and hearing what you’re pouring, making, and serving this season.

W**e Without Rules. Not Without Roots.

Yesterday was Cabernet Day. We spent it bottling Pinot Noir.

Our 2025 Pinot Noir from Green Valley of the Russian River Valley is now in bottle—one vintage settling into its next stage while the 2026 harvest fills the cellar around it.

In the w**ery, the work follows the w**e.

Harvest update from the cellar.

On Friday we received 2.25 tons of Syrah from Shake Ridge Ranch in Amador County. It’s the earliest they have ever picked this fruit.

The clusters came in clean and intact. We destemmed them into fermentation bins, covered them, and let them rest. For the moment the cellar is quiet. That won’t last. Once fermentation starts, we’ll manage the cap with punch-downs.

This is the beginning of the 2026 Shake Ridge Syrah — one small lot, one vineyard, one harvest day.

Swipe through the photos: fruit at the dock, the clusters up close, the transfer into the stemmer, and the bins waiting under cover.

If you’ve followed our Shake Ridge lots before, you’ll know why this one matters.

A focused week in the vineyards.

We’re out sampling fruit, tasting berries, and watching ripeness as the first harvest decisions begin to take shape.

Closest to ready is the Grenache at Fong Vineyard. Because this fruit is destined for rosé, we will pick it earlier than we would for a red — looking for bright acidity, fresh fruit character, and lower sugar rather than the fuller ripeness we would want for a red.

We’re getting close.

Four days apart.
On the left, our Gewürztraminer at the end of lag phase.

On the right, Day 8 — active fermentation, still gently sweet, intensely aromatic, and naturally lively.

This is one of those rare, fleeting tastes only a w**emaker gets to experience while the w**e is still in motion. It won’t taste like this for long.

What comes next is quieter, deeper, and entirely its own.

Harvest is moving from the vineyard into the cellar.

Our Russian River Valley Gewürztraminer is now in active fermentation. Foam, bubbles, and suspended yeast make the transformation visible. The glass drawn on Day 4 is still cloudy and unsettled — nowhere near finished.

This is the quiet, in-between stage of w**emaking. No longer just juice. Not yet the w**e it will become. Just the process unfolding.

We’ll keep sharing these moments as the 2026 vintage takes shape.

Harvest 2026 has officially moved from the vineyard into the cellar.

Our Russian River Valley Gewürztraminer is now in active fermentation. What you see in the first frame is the yeast at work — foam, bubbles, and suspended solids making the transformation visible. The second image is a glass drawn on Day 4: cloudy, unsettled, and still far from its finished form.

Harvest is often told through grapes, weather, and vintage. But at its heart, harvest is a story about people.

We began in the fog of the Russian River Valley, filling the first bins of Gewürztraminer. Back at the w**ery, the whole clusters went directly into the press, beginning their transformation from pink-skinned fruit into the first white w**e of the 2026 vintage.

By the end of the day, the juice was resting in tank—and the first day of our earliest harvest in nineteen years ended as it should: with a glass raised to the work, the vintage, and the people who made it possible.

To the hands behind harvest 2026—thank you.

Before daylight, harvest 2026 began.

Gewürztraminer in the Russian River Valley—our earliest harvest in nineteen years. A waning crescent overhead. Fog between the vines. The first fruit of a new vintage waiting to be picked.

These are the mornings that stay with you. The quiet, the cool air, and the knowledge that everything begins here.

Grateful to be back among the vines.
