Cybersecurity gets a lot of attention at the point of access: passwords, firewalls, phishing. Less so at the point of disposal, which is where some of the most preventable breaches actually happen.

Cybersecurity Awareness Month is the perfect time to talk about these. Swipe through for common cybersecurity myths.

Device disposal is part of your security posture. Treat it accordingly.

"In a business like ours where trust is everything, having a team that takes ownership and does things the right way means everything to me." - Jon Nappa, founder of Bruin

That's been the foundation at Bruin since day one. Over 20 years later, it still is.

When you hand over devices containing sensitive data, you're trusting your recycler with more than equipment. You're trusting them with your data security, your environmental responsibility, and your compliance record.

Swipe through to see what that trust actually requires, and how Bruin is built to earn it.

This is what "a few boxes of old equipment" can look like.

Every organization has a storage room, a closet, or a back office with a pile that's been growing for longer than anyone wants to admit. It starts with a laptop. Then a monitor. Then a full hardware refresh that never got properly cleared out.

Bruin picks it up, ensures data is destroyed for contracted equipment, and that nothing ends up in the landfill so your team can get its time and space back.

E-waste disposal has changed. Here's what it used to look like — and what it looks like when it's done right.

This doesn't have to be the thing nobody wants to deal with. When it's handled right, it just gets done without causing your IT team any headaches.

Most e-waste mistakes don't happen because organizations are careless. They happen because of assumptions that seem reasonable until an auditor asks a question nobody can answer.

Here are the most common ones.

Yes, e-waste disposal is complicated — but Bruin makes it easy. Get in touch with us to discuss your e-waste needs.

The most common reason organizations don't deal with old electronics: they assume it's going to be complicated.

Scheduling. Logistics. Cost. Certified data destruction. Finding the right recycler. Figuring out what's even accepted.

For most of our business clients, it's simpler than they expect. Tell us what you have and where you are. We handle the rest — pickup included, at no cost for qualifying loads, and with no annual commitments required.

The pile in your storage room has probably been there longer than you'd like to admit. August is as good a time as any to clear it out.

Every August, the same thing happens in school districts and government agencies across New York.

New devices come in. Old ones get moved to a storage room, a closet, or a back office — and stay there.

Proper e-waste disposal is one of those things that's easy to deprioritize when everything else is moving. We put together a practical guide to make it easier — what a compliant process looks like, what documentation to have ready, and how to build a program that runs without becoming another thing on the list.
