Last week, Anne, the founder of Social Squib, headed over to the University of Nottingham to chat with Dr. Ewa Szypula’s students. She shared her journey from a Liberal Arts degree to building her own business, focusing on what it really looks like to "ride the wave" of tech.

Anne talked about how the marketing industry pivoted when digital marketing first took off and how we're navigating the same kind of shift today as technology changes again. It was also great to hear from Isobel Dyson about the project she worked on, "The Herds," and see all the amazing things arts graduates are up to these days.

If you run ads to find customers in the UK or Europe, listen up! Starting July 1, 2026, Meta is adding a small "Location Fee" to your bill.

The Simple Breakdown:

❗️What is it? Governments in certain countries started taxing big tech companies. Meta used to pay this for you, now; they’re passing the bill to you.
❗️Who pays? Anyone whose ads are shown to people in the UK, France, Italy, Spain, Austria, or Türkiye. (It doesn't matter where you live; it matters where your audience lives!)
❗️How much? It’s a surcharge of 2% to 5% depending on the country.

⚠️ What that will look like: When you set a $100 budget in your dashboard, Meta will still spend exactly $100. BUT, when your receipt comes, it will be for $100 + tax (if targeting any of those countries).

The Takeaway: If you have a strict marketing budget, you need to "math" an extra 2–5% into your plans,
