4-H Camp is a long standing tradition in Park County! Every June the Teen Leader plan a 3 night, 4 day camp for the 4-H members to attend. The last few years we have camped in Paradise Valley at Luccock Park. This beautiful but close to home spot is a great location for camp as there is plenty of open space, hikes in the area, and a peaceful setting with very limited internet- perfect for getting the kids outdoors and off their screens!

Counselors plan a variety of workshops and activities; crafts, cooking, dancing, group games, and more. We always have a talent show, a dance, and of course, a water fight!

We love having this time to bring everyone together to strengthen their connections and give them the opportunity to learn new skills.

Have a kiddo age 8-13? We may have some openings for camp this year. You can call or email to be put on out list, once 4-H members are done signing up we'll open spots to the general public, 6/1/26: [email protected] or 406-222-4156 for more info.

This week we'd like to share about our Teen Leaders Club and the opportunities they create for our 4-H members.

4-H places a large emphasis on building leadership skills, public speaking, and service to others. Through our Teen Leaders Club, members that at 14 -19 years old have an additional opportunity to practice those skills.

Our Teen Leaders meet regularly to plan and host a variety of 4-H centered events: 4-H camp, Achievement Afternoon, Activity Day, and stand-alone workshops. Their monthly meetings follow parliamentary procedure, and they have a set of elected officers to assist with running the meetings. They do their own fundraising and budgeting with the assistance of their club leader.

In addition to hosting Park County 4-H events, the Teen Leaders also attend statewide conferences to strengthen their leadership abilities and gain new skills to share with others. In the past few years our attendance at state events has increased significantly. We now send 3-10 members to each of the three state conferences held annually. Members are excited to attend and look forward to sharing what they learn with our adult and youth members.

In 2025 Park County Teen Leaders were able to play a greater role in the state Rec Lab event as it was held in our region. Our teens were able to help plan the opening activities and host the opening ceremony for a group of 200+ teens from across the state.

Teen Leaders also have the opportunity to become Park County Ambassadors, which then makes them eligible to be a state 4-H ambassador. In the year 2024-25 we had a State Ambassador selected from Park County- Morgan Sites. His role in state events inspired several of our teens to look at other opportunities within the state for themselves.

Our county ambassadors take on additional roles such as promoting 4-H at school and community events. This year they will be hosting a booth at the Year of the Young Child Carnival in Livingston. They also receive additional training to help them in their roles as leaders, counselors, and role models for younger members. They have lots of opportunity to practice the skills they learn by providing workshops and clinics to Park County 4-H.

During the weeks leading up to the 2026 Park County Ag Fair we'd like to highlight some of our lesser known 4-H programs.

Park County 4-H runs a 10 week Shooting Sports program for 8-19 year-olds during the winter months. We have weekly shooting sessions for Air Pistol, Air Rifle, BB Gun Safety, and Archery. On most Sundays December-February you'll find approximately 45 shooters practicing at the fairgrounds.

We have many youth who only participate in shooting sports- you can enroll as a member at large just to participate in shooting- contact the office in November for more details!

Each spring shooters can compete in the statewide competitions, and may even qualify for the national competitions held each June in Nebraska. Park County typically has participants quality to go to the national event.

This year our Air Rifle coaches hosted their first competition; matching our shooters up against local law enforcement officers. We had a great turnout and everyone enjoyed the opportunity to connect with officers in the community- although they did just barely win the competition! We look forward to holding it again next year.

Many people connect the idea of 4-H to raising livestock, earning ribbons at the county fair, and living in a rural area. While that is all accurate, 4-H goes beyond that to create learning experiences and growth opportunities for kids in a wide variety of areas.

Our youngest 4-H participants, called Cloverbuds, get to sample many 4-H programs: art, cooking, sewing, animal demonstrations and more. Cloverbuds are ages 5-7, and they meet several times during the year to try out different projects and start practicing 4-H skills like public speaking. These early 4-H years are designed to spark their interest in future projects.

We are incredibly grateful to the Park County Community Foundation and the Park County Senior Center for selecting the Park County Ag Fair as a recipient of the Senior Giving Circle Award.

This support means so much to our fair community. It helps us continue providing meaningful opportunities for youth and agricultural education right here in Park County. We are especially honored to be recognized by a group so deeply committed to giving back and strengthening our community.

Thank you for investing in the future of our fair and the next generation. We appreciate you!
