Hello Lake of the Woods members, we have found a lost dog on Musket with a red collar, resembling a Beagle Hound. If this is your dog, please note that we will have the dog here at Security. If we don’t hear anything within the next couple of hours, the dog will be turned over to the Orange Animal Shelter.

A little bit about what my armed Patrol Officers do; one of the most important tasks is doing the tour. That consists of scanning various points throughout the Lake. In addition to the tour, they answer calls for service that don’t require law enforcement such as a welfare check, jump start, or noise complaints. Armed Patrol Officers do have the authority to issue a Lake of the Woods Summons for LCC but cannot execute a traffic stop and they are not authorized to issue a Virginia Uniform Summons.

Special Conservators of the Peace (SCOP) are sworn law enforcement officers through the Orange County Circuit Court and have the same authority as a deputy working for the Sheriff’s Office, but our jurisdiction is exclusively in Lake of the Woods unless we’re dispatched to a call by Orange County Emergency Communications to a call close by.

As a side note, one call we do not do anymore due to potential liability is a lift assist since we don’t have the equipment that Fire/Rescue has. If you or someone you know needs help getting up, call Orange County Emergency Communications Center at 540-672-1234 and they’ll dispatch the appropriate personnel to assist.

I would like to provide an understanding of the role of an Access Control Officer working at the front gate. We respond to county dispatch calls and direct our road officers to incidents in the Lake such as accidents and altercations. Additionally, we handle alarm activations for our buildings and residents' homes. We maintain a detailed log of all calls and verify the credentials of guests and members entering through the guest lane. Guests and contractors must be pre-approved and we manage various phone calls including guest authorizations and calls for service in the Lake. The back gate is exclusively for members, and we address gate hangs (the member gate arm not activating) and realtors entering the Lake. We do not have the authority the SCOP or patrol officers have and do not carry weapons on duty. Some of us have the certification for and do carry OC spray, though. It can become somewhat hectic for new officers still learning the ropes, as there is a significant amount of information to absorb within a short period time. Furthermore, we monitor the CCTV cameras for any suspicious activity throughout the Lake.

The traffic light at the merge in the new visitor lane was installed today. It is a legitimat traffic signal, so make sure you come to a complete stop when your light is red, just like before it was removed. The light at the end of the member gate island will eventually be a flashing yellow light to be cautious as you approach the merge.

MVA at the intersection of Lakeview and Mt. Pleasant. One lane of Mt Pleasant currently blocked by a tractor-trailer; crews are on scene working to clear the scene shortly. Use an alternate route if possible.

Front Gate Project Update: Tomorrow and Friday, steady construction will focus on laying bricks for the new guard house. Concrete should be poured in the newest median on Monday. The installation of the new swing gate is scheduled for 4-24-25.
