So, now it looks like the season is coming together. The winery is ready for the grapes and the grapes seem to be ready for the winery. Monday, coming week 8/, the first few truck each filled with 25 tons of grapes will start rolling in. Pinot Grigio as well as Chardonnay grapes are on the docket.

The question as to the drought we have in California has come up from many of our friends around the globe. So, here is our comments on said subject.

Yes, all of California is in a serious drought. However, it is not affecting our region nor is it affecting our grapes. We have plenty water in the ground that is used to irrigate the vineyards.

“NOAA's National Weather Service indicates El Niño is likely to emerge in next few months. Forecasters favor a weak-to-moderate event. Typical El Niño impacts in the U.S. include above-average rainfall in the West and suppressed hurricane activity in the East, although neither is guaranteed and largely dependent on El Niño's strength.”

This means that we may have a wet winter allowing us to catch up in terms of water storage in the lakes and reservoirs around the state. If this takes place, perhaps we will be out of the drought condition by spring 2015.

I asked Steve Millier how he felt the grapes are doing as far as development is concerned. He confirmed what so many other people are saying. That is that we will most likely have an early harvest by about 10 to 14 days. The Chardonnay grapes on the vine in the picture is starting to show verasion and becoming more and more translucent. Harvest is just around the corner!!
