Network-as-a-Service or NaaS, is a standards-based automated ecosystem, offering on-demand connectivity, application assurance, cybersecurity, and multi-cloud services. NaaS enables organizations to achieve business goals without the need to create or manage their infrastructure. In other words, providers can now bundle networking functionality as a service offering. This means networking hardware, software and all related services can be delivered in a cloud-like motion, which implies subscription-based or consumption-based billing. This means offering organizations software driven networking services, so they do not have to invest in purchasing, installing, and maintaining networking hardware. The customer then pays for a subscription monthly, to access the providers network resources. This new approach to managing a business network is appealing, but there is a tradeoff. If an organization migrated to internet-based network functionality, instead of a local hardware backbone, there is room for risk. While these services may drastically improve over time, we currently still suggest our clients to move forward with physical hardware as a more stable solution, at least for now.
