First day of harvest at our Amador County vineyard. Picking Verdelho today, 12 days earlier than last year.
The crop is light. Ended up with half of what we picked last year, but that is farming. The grapes will go into two very different wines. Some will become our crisp, lemony Verdelho, fermented in stainless steel and bottled next spring. And a portion will become our Madeira inspired fortified wine, which we bake in our outdoor sheds and then leave untouched to age for 10, 15, or maybe even 20 years.
Not willing to wait that long? Stop by the tasting room. We are pouring the 2016 right now.
