Well, I haven't posted about our week yet because it has been kind of stressful. Last week, Dan had two back surgeries in two days. We came home on Thursday and everything seemed to be okay for a few days. Monday, his incision site was quite swollen but no signs of infection. Doctor attributed it to the second surgery and said to watch it. Tuesday morning, Dan's back started leaking fluid and his severe headache returned. After speaking with medical staff and his surgeon, they thought it was likely just a pocket of fluid from the trauma of 2 surgeries. Asked to see him Wednesday morning. So, Wednesday morning, we went back to Indy. They took one look at the amount and color of fluid and put him horizontal. Quick MRI and a trip across the building had Dan readmitted and waiting for surgery for a csf leak. Due to the size of the leak, the fragility of the dura in the area, and the danger of another leak, Dan was kept laying flat for about 36 hours. He was lucky enough to sit up this morning and progress quite easily through the checklist to come home. We got home around 4pm today but he is on a strict diet of bed or recliner rest for at least two weeks in an effort to allow the repaired dura to heal and not leak again.
Please text, call, snap him. He is already bored and needs communication. And continue to send prayers/good thoughts that he heals up and we can move forward this time.
Thank you!!
