A paper funded through the Geoscience Research Institute and published in May 2026 describes a new method for computing the rate for cooling an underground magma chamber, as it interacts with hydrothermal fluids and crystallizes to form a granitic rock body. Read the article here👉

Magmatic–hydrothermal systems transport heat through coupled conduction and buoyancy-driven fluid flow in porous rock, behavior conventionally modeled with grid-based finite-difference simulators such as HYDROTHERM. We demonstrate that a physics-informed neural network (PINN), built on the NVIDIA ...

Lance and Mogi Pompe represented GRI and Loma Linda University at the Earth Summit in Ottawa, Canada, hosted by the Ontario Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, on April 26. They presented a talk titled “Earth: Our Special Planet”. They spoke about planetary habitability and several features special to the Earth that make life possible. This was interspersed with the relevant Bible passages that refer to God’s creation of our home planet. Then, they transitioned to present an overview of research projects we are working on at GRI and LLU. Dr Luciano Gonzalez, from the IAD GRI Branch Office, also gave a talk titled “God the Mathematician and Universal Designer.”

This past week in California, members of the Faith & Science Council visited the La Brea Tar Pits Museum in Los Angeles.

This is one of the world’s most remarkable urban fossil sites, where a massive accumulation of animals were preserved in tar. Among the most iconic are saber tooth cats, dire wolves, mammoths, and giant ground sloths.

The group had an opportunity to discuss this site and the evidence for an Ice Age in the context of the biblical timeline.
