We think of each spring release as a kind of timestamp — a snapshot of the growing season, of our coastal vineyards, and of our wines, always guided by patience rather than force.

This year’s release leaned into clarity and freshness:

Romance Chardonnay with precision and lift,
Sweeney Road Aligoté driven by energy,

Last weekend we shared a brunch at Sandhi Wines to celebrate the end of harvest and our recent Fall Release. Club members and friends joined us for a beautiful meal cooked by our Hospitality Manager Adam, alongside current and library wines. Thanks to all who joined us!

The selection of Sandhi’s vineyard sites has been intentional every step of the way. So much of the character in the wines from Rinconada comes from what lies below and around the vines: rocks ranging in size from pebbles to boulders, and an abundance of water from natural springs behind Rinconada and it’s next-door neighbor Sanford & Benedict.

It shares the same uplifted alluvial soils and Monterey shale that grace the Memorious and Bloom’s Field parcels and lend those wines their taut structure and perfume.⁠

Watershed restoration, biodiversity enhancement, orchard rehabilitation–these are just a few of the projects has tackled for our region’s benefit. ⁠

Grown just ten miles from the Pacific, the 5.5-acre regeneratively farmed vineyard serves as a testing ground and classroom to promote farming practices that conserve water, preserve soil, and foster a healthy microbiome. ⁠

2023 marked our third harvest. We look forward to many more years working, and learning, with this vital organization.

We accompanied Adam to the cellar, where he selected an older vintage for the Sandhi Cellar Experience tasting lineup. With a grin from ear to ear he chose a bottle of 2014 Mt. Carmel Pinot Noir.

“This wine is juicy, like biting in a red plum. On the nose, dried florals, lavender, sasafrass, dried cherries. Palate is juicy. It’s bright but there’s also a great round texture.”

Established in 1989 on land surrounding a long-abandoned Carmelite nuns’ monastery, Mt. Carmel is situated on a highly-exposed, two-tiered mountain directly north of the Santa Ynez River, at the eastern end of The Sta. Rita Hills.

The vineyard’s unique characteristics are heavily influenced by a combination of its elevation (800-1000 feet above sea level) and soil composition, which includes loose, well-drained limestone, botella clay, diatomaceous earth, calcareous deposits, and sandy loam.

Wine is still one of the most important things in my life so I felt that it was important to work for wineries that I was passionate about.” When speaking with our Director of Hospitality, Adam, you can immediately feel his warmth and enthusiasm for being a proud girl dad, as well as his expertise in the world of wine.⁠

An Italian Wine Professional, to be exact, and a runner-up for the Ruinart Blind Tasting Challenge, Adam managed the wine program at the iconic Casa Tua Aspen. We are fortunate to have him leading our hospitality efforts at Sandhi.⁠

“ ‘Make yourself at home’. My wife would always say that to people when they would walk into her establishment and I just love it. I want people to feel welcomed and relaxed. Since Covid, good hospitality has seemed to be forgotten and I think we need it more now than ever.”⁠

Adam greets his guests with a glass of sparkling wine at every visit and leads them through a tour of our winemaking facility. He has formed a close connection with the wines after participating in the 2023 harvest, an experience he describes as “career altering.” ⁠

The team recently gathered to taste through the 2022 spring club shipment with DJ and Sashi. This is an important step that occurs before each release to ensure that we, as a team, understand the experience our customers will have when they open our single vineyard Chardonnay cuvées.⁠

During the tasting, Sashi took a moment to reflect on each of the different vineyards highlighted,⁠

“Sandhi was started because Raj believed strongly that there is terroir in California and the best place to prove that point is in the Sta Rita Hills. That’s why we are here. This is why Sandhi exists.”
