Wasp and hornet nests can grow surprisingly large during the summer months, and attempting to remove them yourself can be dangerous. A single disturbed colony may contain hundreds or even thousands of stinging insects, and they can become extremely aggressive when they feel threatened.
It’s also important to know that nests are not always the familiar hanging paper nests you see under eaves or in trees. Wasps and yellowjackets commonly build nests underground, inside electrical boxes, wall voids, siding, attics, crawl spaces, sheds, and other hidden areas around the home.
We always recommend calling a professional when nests become large or are located in difficult or unsafe areas. Disturbing a colony can result in multiple painful stings and, in some cases, severe allergic reactions.
After treatment, we recommend avoiding the area until the following day. Many worker wasps are away from the nest during the day gathering food and may not return until evening. For this reason, it can take up to 24 hours for the entire colony to be eliminated.
