Two Layoffs in One Year. Then He Stopped Applying.

Twenty years in tech sales. President’s Club. Top quartile every year. The kind of resume that opens doors.
The first layoff hit in 2014. Wrong quarter, wrong reorg, wrong VP got promoted. He told himself it was a fluke and started applying again. New role within six months.

A year later, the second one landed. Different company. Same script.
That’s when something broke — and then something clicked.
He stopped applying.

I Coached a Client to Take a Job Instead of a Franchise. I Called It a Win.

Let’s call him Ryan.

He came to me to explore career ownership — franchise, distributorship, the whole exploration. Smart guy. Mid-40s. Good resume. Real reasons for wanting out of corporate.
We sat down and mapped his I.L.W.E. goals: Income, Lifestyle, Wealth, Equity. Real numbers, not vibes. What does your life actually cost? What do you want a Tuesday to look like in three years? What are you building? What holds value when you stop working?

Memorial Day Off? You Didn’t Actually Get the Day Off.

I want you to think about your last “three-day weekend.”

Monday closed. Sounds great on paper.
But what actually happened on Tuesday? The inbox doubled. The standup ran long. Wednesday’s deadline didn’t move — it just got compressed into less time.

That’s not time off. That’s a deferred deadline with a flag on it.
When you work for someone else, your calendar belongs to someone else. They rent your time back to you in eight-hour rectangles and call the gaps “benefits.”
