For those of you who are 40+

Don't let others dictate what you can and cannot do or where you should or shouldn't be.

We've done and seen too much in our lives and careers for others (especially those that don't know us) to try to tell us what we are capable of achieving.

We have much more to accomplish and give to the world. We are not done yet.

September 22 through September 28 is National Employ Older Workers Week.

While the week has passed, the premise and principle remains and must be acknowledged.

Ageism and experience bias exist and the recipients of these biases know when it's happening to them. There are several reasons it happens but a few include
- young recruiters and hiring managers will choose candidates who are like them in age and experience
- people think older workers aren't savvy about new technology and can't keep up
- a belief that older workers can't adapt to new approaches and strategies

Organizations can greatly benefit from hiring older workers. Their work ethic, dedication, knowledge, and experience adds to new approaches and strategies and can make these organizations stronger.

Companies must end ageism and experience bias in their interview and hiring process. Most don't know the high cost and penalty if they don't.

Be open to hiring older workers and witness their positive impact on your company, customers, and internal teams.

To do so is more than happiness, but joy.
