I’m incredibly excited that my friend and colleague Catherine Milton’s long-awaited book has published. "Creating AmeriCorps: Bipartisanship in Action". Today, a Day On, not a Day Off, Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, is one of many AmeriCorps initiatives. Many don’t know that the creation of both Points of Light and AmeriCorps were part of the same plan, one private sector and the other public.

“AmeriCorps was an important idea that many, including Catherine, made into a reality. It is a fascinating and inspiring story that gives hope to the thought that people on both sides of the isle can come together for the betterment of our nation. As natural disasters have increased in frequency and intensity, stakeholder expectations have also increased for companies to respond through corporate citizenship and philanthropy programs. A key theme emerging from the response to the Lahaina disaster, and The Conference Board’s forthcoming 2023 Disaster Philanthropy Practices report, sponsored by E4E Relief, is the growing importance of employees in the company’s response: as drivers, contributors, and beneficiaries of corporate responses. As September marks National Preparedness Month, this webcast will discuss ways companies can enhance their response capabilities – spotlighting employees as the leading stakeholder group in driving and shaping corporate disaster philanthropy efforts.
