I grew up in a union household. Every labor endorsement represents thousands of families like my own, earning an honest living as costs rise across the country thanks to Donald Trump.

Their support means the world to me. I’ll always have their back, and they’ll always have mine.

Last week, a member of the Long Beach Professional Firefighters Association, IAFF Local 287, proudly represented our Local at the 2026 MDA Boot Camp alongside career fire departments from across the Northeast. After earning recognition as New York’s #1 fundraising firefighter union for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Local 287 joined fellow top-performing IAFF locals to celebrate the success of the 2025 campaign, connect with local MDA ambassador families, learn about the latest advancements in neuromuscular disease research, and share ideas to make the 2026 Fill the Boot campaign even stronger.

The MDA Fill the Boot campaign is a long-standing firefighter tradition that helps fund critical research, medical care, adaptive equipment, summer camps, and support services for individuals and families affected by muscular dystrophy, ALS, and related neuromuscular diseases.

We are incredibly proud to continue supporting this important mission and look forward to building on last year’s success. On behalf of Local 287, we want to sincerely thank the residents and visitors of the Long Beach for their continued generosity and support. This recognition belongs to the entire community just as much as it belongs to us. 🙏🏆🚒 //

Meet the Hometown Hero 🇺🇸🔥
Jack Meyers 🚒

Born and raised in Long Beach, FF-Medic Jack Meyers is one of our own. A Long Beach High School alum and Ocean Lifeguard, Jack has always served this community.
After earning his degree from SUNY Binghamton, he began his career with FDNY EMS as an EMT in Brooklyn. In 2022, he returned home to join the Long Beach Fire Department as a career Firefighter. He later earned his Paramedic certification from Stony Brook University, continuing to build on his commitment to serving others.

The Long Beach S.T.O.P program takes place on Sunday, April 19, 2026 behind City Hall from 8am to 3pm.

Do not throw hazardous items in the trash or pour them down the drain! Instead, bring them to the S.T.O.P. program. In cooperation with the Town of Hempstead, the S.T.O.P. Program is designed to provide area residents with a safe, environmentally sound method of disposal of the many hazardous materials found in the average home.

If you are not able to make the Long Beach S.T.O.P collection date, you may bring your hazardous items to other collection sites or to the Sanitation Garage on 150 W. Pine Street between 7am - 2pm or visit one of the other Town of Hempstead Collection events.
