We spend a lot of time talking about the aircraft of the future.

We probably don’t spend enough time talking about the airports they’ll need.

The FAA is moving forward with demonstrations of hybrid-electric aircraft connecting smaller airports with larger commercial hubs. The technology will get most of the attention, but the airport side of this story may ultimately be just as important.

If new aircraft make shorter regional routes more practical, airports that have traditionally sat outside major transportation networks could take on a different role.

That raises some interesting questions.

Are those airports prepared for new types of operations? Do they have the infrastructure, utilities, facilities and development capacity to support them? And perhaps more importantly, are they protecting enough flexibility in their long-term plans to respond if demand changes?

New aircraft technology doesn’t just change how we fly.

Over time, it can change which airports matter, and how communities think about the aviation assets they already have.

A little more than 120 years ago, the Wright brothers flew 120 feet at Kitty Hawk.

Since then, aviation crossed the Atlantic, broke the sound barrier, put people on the Moon, connected cities around the world and built an air transportation system that moves millions of people and enormous amounts of commerce every day.

It’s easy to take that progress for granted.

Aviation connects communities. It supports businesses and local economies. It makes emergency response and medical transportation possible. General and business aviation reach places the airlines don’t, while thousands of airports across the country serve as economic engines for the communities around them.

And the industry continues to evolve.

Air traffic control is being modernized. New aircraft and technologies are entering the airspace. Airports are preparing for demands that would have been difficult to imagine even a generation ago.

National Aviation Day is a chance to appreciate how far aviation has come, but also how important it remains to where we’re going.

There’s a lot worth celebrating. Here’s to building the future of aviation, together.

The FAA’s plan to modernize the National Airspace System by 2028 is one of the most significant infrastructure improvement effort aviation has seen in decades. While new communications networks and digital capabilities will receive most of the attention, the decisions made over the next few years will shape airport operations, business and community access and the future of aviation.

A few questions deserve just as much attention as the technology itself:

• Will modernization preserve equitable access? General aviation, rural airports, business aviation and emergency services all depend on the same national system. Improvements should strengthen those connections—not make them harder to maintain.

• How will staffing and facility decisions affect service? Recent controller shortages have shown that operational challenges quickly become access challenges.

• Can innovation happen without sacrificing transparency? Industry leaders have drawn a clear distinction between modernization and privatization, emphasizing that technological progress should continue under a framework of federal oversight and public accountability.

Modernization is about far more than replacing aging technology.

It’s about making decisions that will preserve and influence how airports operate, how communities stay connected and who has access to the National Airspace System for decades to come.

In aviation new aircraft components earn their place through testing, transparency, verification, and certification of performance under real operating conditions.

Artificial intelligence should and will be held to the same standard.

Its value will not come from replacing judgment. It will come from helping people interpret information more quickly, identify risk earlier, and make better decisions without obscuring the source or certainty of the data. That matters in the cockpit.

It also matters in policy, guidance, rule making, airport planning, operations, maintenance, and every other part of the system where decisions carry consequences.

The central question is not how quickly aviation can use AI. It is making sure AI is integrated without weakening safety, accountability, discipline, or trust.

Aviation has spent generations building those standards. AI should be required to meet them.

Airport rates, fees, and minimum standards are more than administrative documents—they are the foundation of fair, transparent, and financially sustainable airport operations. AGP is assisting airports meet these goals.

Most conversations about the World Cup end with the final score.

The aviation conversation starts long before kickoff.

This year’s tournament has brought together fans from all over the world into and across the United States, with fans, teams, broadcasters, sponsors, and officials moving between host cities over the course of several weeks. Business aviation rises to the occasion.

That kind of movement doesn’t just fill stadiums, It creates flights.

It changes travel patterns. Putting added pressure on airports and air traffic systems already managing busy airspace. At the same time, it fuels economic activity and spending in communities that benefit from visitors and long after they’ve left the airport. Business aviation is woven into nearly every part of this activity.

It’s a reminder that aviation rarely takes center stage during events like this. Without it, events like this don’t happen.

Sometimes the biggest story isn’t what happens inside the stadium, it’s everything that had to work before anyone could take their seat. When business aviation moves, economies move with it.

Every five years, Congress considers FAA Reauthorization: the legislation that establishes the Federal Aviation Administration’s funding, authorities, and priorities for the years ahead.

The decisions made through that process influence airport infrastructure, air traffic modernization, aviation safety, workforce development, environmental policy, and the long-term direction of general and business aviation.

Those outcomes don’t develop overnight.

They reflect years of input from airport leaders, operators, industry associations, planners, engineers, local officials, and many others who bring operational experience into the policy process.

The strongest voices are often the ones closest to the work.

Good aviation policy has always depended on leadership long before the legislation is signed.
