BEFORE AND AFTER - in October, we were able to contain three red fox siblings suffering from mange. Two brothers and a sister. The sister was the last one we were able to contain and, unfortunately, was too far gone.
All three foxes had mange and their blood had significant difficulty clotting. The only way to confirm rat poison, definitely, is through a necropsy and a test of the liver. Since their sister had passed, we were able to have her tested and we can confirm that she did have a rat poison named, Bromadiolone, in her system.
Though we weren’t able to save her, with 6 weeks of treatment, we were able to save her brothers. Here is a before and after of Oscar. The first picture the day he came in and the last picture taken this morning.
The top picture isn’t just what mange looks like. It’s what rat poison looks like in a fox too.
In wildlife rehab, we mourn the losses and we are recharged by the wins.
Though, the real win will be when people stop using this stuff….
Till then, this beautiful fox will warm my soul and keep me fighting for what’s right.
