Ever noticed a small round bump — or a tiny crater — popping through a wall that used to be perfectly smooth? That's a nail pop, and it's one of the most common things we see in homes across NJ, PA, and NY. 👀
Here's what most homeowners don't know: it's not your paint, and it's usually not your drywall. The wood framing behind the wall was installed with some moisture still in it. Over the years that lumber dries and shrinks — and as it shrinks, it slowly squeezes the nail back out. The head pushes through the surface, and you get that little bump or ring.
The tempting fix? Smear spackle over it and repaint. The problem: the nail is still loose and the board is still unanchored, so it pops right back through — usually within a year.
The right fix takes ten extra minutes. Drive a drywall screw into the stud an inch or two from the old nail to re-anchor the panel, set or pull the old nail, then patch, sand, and blend the paint. Done that way, it never comes back. 🔧
