Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Shipping and Receiving Manager to lead our logistics operations with energy and precision. In this pivotal role, you will oversee the entire shipping and receiving process, ensuring seamless coordination between our forklift drivers, carriers, and clients. Your leadership will drive process improvements, optimize inventory control, and uphold safety standards to support our fast-paced lumber products facility. Responsibilities

Supervise daily shipping and receiving activities, ensuring timely and accurate processing of all inbound and outbound shipments.
Manage inventory levels through effective inventory management practices, utilizing Salesforce software, MS Excel and Outlook.
Lead a team of forklift drivers, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback to foster a motivated and efficient workforce.
Coordinate lumber yard efforts, optimizing materials handling, heavy lifting procedures, and forklift operations in compliance with OSHA standards.
Implement process improvements to enhance operational efficiency, reduce errors, and streamline logistics workflows across the facility.
Oversee materials handling equipment maintenance and mechanical knowledge application to ensure safety and productivity.
Collaborate with third-party logistics providers (3PL) to ensure smooth integration of external supply chain functions.
Schedule and communicate with outside logistics companies.
Dispatch and effectively communicate with company drivers.
Maintain and oversee DOT records for company drivers and related trucks.
Skills

Extensive experience in warehouse management, including warehouse supervisor roles or similar leadership positions.
Strong knowledge of inventory control techniques and warehouse distribution processes.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Salesforce.
Skilled in team management with excellent communication abilities to motivate staff toward shared goals.
Oversee materials handling equipment maintenance and mechanical knowledge application to ensure safety and productivity.

We are looking to add to our great team here at LIL. If you are looking to make a career change, consider joining our team! We currently have three openings for experienced people:

Sawyer- This position requires skill, hand/eye coordination, self-motivation and teamwork. We are looking for someone with previous sawmill experience on a Head-rig, Circle-saw or Bandsaw. This position sets the tone and speed for the entire mill.

Assistant Assembly Manager- The right person in this position works with the Assembly Department Manager to set daily schedules, plan workflow, trains new coworkers, inspects finished product for Quality among many other duties. This position requires previous experience in assembly/production, use of small hand tools, forklift, computer and machine operation. Also, must be willing and able to learn machine set up and operation using touch screen and documented instructions.

Floater- Do you like variety in your job? This may be the position for you if you have previous experience in heavy equipment operation such as front-end loaders, knuckle booms, large forklifts and other equipment.

Our hours of operation are Monday -Thursday 6:30am-4:30pm, and Friday 6:30 am- noon or 2:00pm depending on workload. As we finish up our new construction/consolidation project this fall, we are looking to add a few more experienced people to our staff. Currently we are looking for:

Maintenance Millwright Lead- Primary responsibilities include leading in maintenance and trouble shooting of all sawmill equipment while creating and maintaining a safe work environment. 3 years prior Sawmill experience a must.

Knuckle Boom Operator- Primary responsibilities include arranging timbers to build our crane mats in a production setting, while ensuring quality control and accuracy. 2 years prior Knuckle Boom experience a must.

Lumberyard Forklift Operator- Primary responsibilities include moving lumber packs throughout our lumberyard, loading/unloading trucks and maintaining records. 2 years lumberyard, or metal yard experience a must.

Looking to get an early start on your firewood pile for this coming Fall?? We have a large pile of our timber blocks that we would like to give away for FREE! If you are interested in some of this wood, please stop by our 1375 Ebenezer Road, Gladys VA location Monday- Thursday between the hours of 8 am and 3 pm. We will offer this wood from now until May 30th or until we run out, whichever happens first.

We are hiring! We have a current opening in our Maintenance Department. We are looking for a detail oriented, self starter that is willing and able to learn.
Duties include, but not limited to:
Performs routine maintenance
Troubleshoot and diagnose issues
Analyze equipment data to identify trends and implement preventive maintenance measures
Respond to maintenance requests in a timely manner and prioritize tasks based on urgency.
Performs daily, weekly blade sharpenings and changes
Ability to read and interpret blueprints a plus
Ability to weld desired

Our construction project is moving along nicely! It has been exciting to watch the new buildings rise up from the ground. We are currently looking to add to our team with the following openings:

Truck Driver- We are looking for a safe, professional, experienced Class A CDL driver to deliver our products and pick up logs at logging sites. We provide up to date, well maintained equipment and our drivers are home nights and weekends. Pay- $65-$70K.

Industrial Maintenance Tech- Do you have experience in Industrial Maintenance? This opening requires a proven professional with a background in maintenance and repair of equipment and rolling stock(forklifts, vehicles, trailers, etc.) Hours are 8am-5pm M-F.

Resaw Operator- We are seeking someone that has experience in machine operation. This individual will be responsible for the setup, operation and routine maintenance on one of our large saw mills. Previous Sawmill or Bandmill experience a plus! Hours are 6:30am-4:30pm M-Th and 6:30am-12:30pm on Fridays.

Lumber Stacker- This is an entry level position from which we often train people to move up within the company. This person must be a team player, have a willingness to learn and work hard. Starting pay- $14.50-$15.50 per hour.

All ready for the second annual Loggers Appreciation Day at Long Island Lumber! Still time to join us! Tomorrow at 9 a.m. 667 Whitehall Rd, Long Island VA. Come join a great crowd of loggers, foresters and others in the industry. SHARPLOGGER class at 9, mill tour at 10:30, lunch to follow. Karen Snape and the SHARPLOGGER program are giving 3 SHARP credits for the day! Word is we may have a visit from Congressman Bob Good as well. Come join us!
