As bad as it gets in the fire service. Join us in praying for their families.

The U.S. Wildland Fire Service is devastated to share that three wildland firefighters lost their lives on Saturday, June 27, as part of an interagency response to the Knowles and Gore fires along the Colorado-Utah border. Additionally, two crew members were injured in the line of duty and have been transported to a hospital.

Our immediate focus is on supporting their families, friends, and fellow crewmates during this incredibly difficult time.

The U.S. Wildland Fire Service stands united with the USDA Forest Service in grief and in our unwavering support for the loved ones left behind. Their bravery, dedication, and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Additional details will be shared as they are able to be released.

LVFD works a lot of fires with Interior, so this level of professionalism and dedication is no surprise to us. Well done by all of you. We're proud to call you our neighbors.

Good afternoon, everyone.

The engine crews, (brushes 1, 2, 4 and tender tanker) of the Long Valley Volunteer Fire Department were dismissed from duty on the Bauman Fire and the Redstone Complex at 8:00 PM last evening (April 24). Multiple members of our department were on scene for all or most of the duration of the event, and our community, neighboring communities and the families involved have expressed their deep gratitude for the department's efforts.

As a department, we are also very grateful to many people and groups who assisted in all different ways to keep everything operational throughout the entire event:

-families who sent and delivered food to the front lines
-neighbors who brought water to fill our trucks in such a remote area
-fire departments that traveled from near and far for mutual aid
-air resources that made slurry drops and aerial spotter/mapping planes (an under-recognized resource- these pilots and crews save more real estate and property than most people will know)
-anyone who helped in some small or large way

Rural fire departments only exist because of people. In this case, the team effort and human resources that went into this went far beyond the 10-12 department members who fought the fire. This wordy post boils down to two words: THANK YOU!

Long Valley Fire Department is currently on scene of the Red Stone Fire complex northeast of Wanblee, SD, fires that were sparked by dry lightning and high winds late Wednesday afternoon. Tender 1, brush 1 and brush 2 remain along with LVFD personnel. This fire is burning in very rough country and is being monitored very closely as a cold front is expected to pass through Thursday afternoon, shifting winds out of a northwesterly direction. Additional personnel will return to assist on Thursday morning. May God bless the men who remain and bring us precipitation soon.

The members of the Long Valley VFD extend our deepest sympathies to the family of Jeff Siscoe, his brothers on the Martin VFD and Rescue and everyone who knew Jeff. Through the years, Jeff was a great friend to us and in his emergency management role, he was second to none, always willing to help us out, especially in the early going when I was learning the ropes as a VFD officer. God speed, brother. And thank you.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our brother, Jeff Siscoe, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

His commitment to this department and to the community will not be forgotten.

Please keep Jeff’s family in your thoughts and prayers during this tough time.
