Why isn’t a custom shade always a 100% match?

The final result is influenced by the oral environment, surrounding teeth, hydration, lighting, and the underlying tooth/stump shade—and those are things we can’t fully evaluate from outside the mouth.

A custom shade gives us valuable information, but it can’t tell us exactly how the finished restoration will look in the patient’s mouth.

We’re diving a little deeper into why tooth shade is more complicated than a shade tab.

As dentistry continues moving toward metal-less solutions, there are now esthetic options that are both durable and functional.

One of those options is an acetal frame — a tooth-colored alternative to the traditional cobalt chromium framework. Because the material is made in natural tooth shades, it blends much more seamlessly with the patient’s smile while still providing strength and flexibility.

A great option for patients looking for comfort, esthetics, and a more natural-looking result.
