What happened in Longview, Wa. is a sad event. We the community stand with the families of the victims.
This should be a wake up call for everyone, everywhere.
This is a classic example of what could happen anywhere, any time.
Earthquake, tornado, tsunami, transportation accidents, terrorist attack, flood, fire, there's absolutely no guarantees for a tomorrow.
We wake up, get ready for our day, then # # # # Happens.
If you're prepared, It helps us get through the event as best as possible.
Having worked 29 major disasters around the world, this has taught me the following.
1). No one can look out for you better then you.
Get your will and estate planning done. If something happens to you medically or other wise, who will look after you, your pets, your family, your home?
Assign a friend or even two friends to help with all of this should you fall sick, injured, or am killed.
This way you know going into your day that your pets, your kids, your family is looked after.
There were 11 killed here in this tragic accident in Longview. Imagine if it was a major event (Quake) and there were 30,000 Dead and 100,000 injured?
Do you have a first aid kit in your vehicle, garage, office, home? Do you know how to use it?
If the roads are shut down, cell phones aren't working, how will you communicate with family, friends,?
What happens if an EMP Strikes? Do you have important items (Flashlights, radios, AM/FM Radios, headlamps, stored in EMP proof containers?
Do you have enough safe water for everyone including your pets for a MONTH?
Do you have a will completed? Cash stored safely? Emailed a copy of your medical records, drivers lic. passports, other records to yourself and a copy to your friends/family/ next of kin?
Do you have food for a month and a way to prepare it? Can opener?
Dishes to eat off stored in your vehicle. Dog food? Home/vehicle?
Water purification equipment?
Do you have a stove, gas, alcohol stove, propane, wood burning?
Enough back up fuel?
Note book, pen/pencil?
Compass and know how to use it? Maps?
What about tents, sleeping bags, plastic tarps, changes of clothing, a way to wash and dry your clothes without electricity? Rope to hang your clothes on to sun or air dry?
What if you're traveling to Portland, or Seattle and you're 1/2 way there when the freeway shuts down to a 30 car pile up and you're spending the next 12 hours parked?
Stored in your vehicle? Wire cutters, Hand tools, crow bar, hatchet, saw, axe, shovel, plastic whistle, signal mirror?
Tooth brush, comb, scissors, nail clippers, wash rag, towel, dental floss, soap, shampoo?
Toilet paper, plastic bags to p**p in? Tarps for privacy? Hand cleaner?
Fire making material, fire starters?
Things to think about.
Respectfully
