Daviess-Martin County REMC will soon begin accepting applications for Camp Kilowatt! 🏕️

If you’re unfamiliar with Camp Kilowatt or need a quick refresher, it’s a three-night, four-day, all-expenses-paid summer camp hosted at Happy Hollow Children’s Camp in Nashville, Indiana. The upcoming camp dates are July 7-10, 2027.

Each year, students who attend camp have the opportunity to learn about the electric cooperative industry, participate in fun summer activities and, of course, make plenty of new friends.

Students will meet at Happy Hollow on the afternoon of July 7 and immediately jump into fun activities, including a live-line demonstration, canoeing, archery, and more.

All sixth-grade students entering seventh grade in the fall of 2027 are eligible to apply. The 2027 Camp Kilowatt application will open on November 2, 2026. All applications are due April 30, 2027.

As temperatures drop, space heaters become a popular way to stay warm. But they can also pose a fire risk if not used safely! ⚠️

🔥 Keep these safety tips in mind:

• Keep space heaters at least 3 feet away from anything that can burn.
• Inspect heaters for cracked or broken plugs and loose connections before each use.
• Always plug heaters directly into a wall outlet — never an extension cord or power strip.
• Never leave a space heater unattended.

Thank you to Washington Primary School for having us out for Friday’s Touch a Truck event! 🚛⚡

Our linemen, Dwain Jolliff and Jackson Allbright, brought one of our utility trucks to show students how utility poles are set in their communities.

Students got an up-close look at how the truck operates, had the chance to handle some of the tools we use every day, and even watched one of our linemen soar into the sky in the bucket! 👷‍♂️

We always enjoy opportunities like these to connect with students and show them a little more about what we do to keep their communities powered! 💙

🏛️ Go Beyond the Classroom with Page Day! 🏛️

Page Day gives high school students the opportunity to experience the Statehouse, step into the role of a lawmaker during a mock bill activity, hear from government leaders, and connect face-to-face with their state legislators.

The program is open to high school students who can provide their own transportation to and from the Statehouse. In most cases, Page Day is recognized as an excused absence, but students should confirm with their school administrators before attending.

We had a great time connecting with students at the Martin County Farm Fair this week! ⚡

Our linemen, Dwain Jolliff and Jackson Allbright, brought our live-line demonstration table to show students just how important electrical safety is. They talked about the dangers of overhead and underground power lines, shared tips for staying safe, and answered plenty of great questions from the students.

We also had the opportunity to share a little of our own story, including how local farmers and rural landowners played an important role in bringing electricity to our communities.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to connect with students and introduce them to their co-op! 💡

The countdown begins! ⏱️

Member Appreciation Day is tomorrow, October 8, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at our office in Loogootee. Come out for free food, chances to win prizes, and the opportunity to see our linemen in action during live pole-top rescue demonstrations!

A pole-top rescue is a specialized safety procedure used by lineworkers to safely rescue an injured or incapacitated person from an elevated utility pole. Our linemen will demonstrate the skills and equipment used during this type of emergency response.
