Give Honor where honor is due ๐๐พ
Honoring a Belizean ๐ง๐ฟ Kriol Cultural icon:
Ms. Myrna Manzanarezโจ๏ธ
Ms. Myrna Manzanarez, an educator, published writer, dramatist, international storyteller, oral history consultant, community counselor, and cultural activist, was born in the village of Gales Point Manatee on October 30, 1946.
The daughter of Ms. Iris Abraham, a premier basket weaver regarded as the town's craft instructress in Gales Point, Ms. Manzanarez was deemed a lead ambassador and mentor of Belizean Creole (Kriol) culture, with a particular focus on the Creole (Kriol) language and storytelling.
Lifetime awards:
2008: The British Empire Medal from the Queen of England, awarded for her exemplary work in Culture, Education, and Social Development.
2010: The Meritorious Service Award from the Government of Belize.
2013: The Women of Culture Award.
Ms. Myrna passed away in Belize City on December 21st, 2021, at 75 years of age. Her legacy continues to profoundly impact all who knew her.
