When young people feel seen, valued, and supported, they don’t just show up—they lead, they grow, and they return with intention. That’s the power of youth development done right.

For the past two years, we’ve helped develop Youth Advisory Councils across 14 YouthSource Centers in Los Angeles, creating a structure that positions youth in meaningful leadership roles.

At Workcon, I had the opportunity to speak alongside staff from the Youth Development Department of Los Angeles and youth leaders who’ve been at the heart of this initiative. Together, we shared our journey—one rooted in shared power, shared vision, and shared impact.

Our evaluation of the Father Engagement Training shows it’s making a real impact!

89% of Social Workers reported greater awareness of cultural and gender biases, and 86% said they better understand how biased reporting affects fathers.

Focus groups confirmed it: this training is challenging biases and broadening perspectives on father engagement.

Last year, we had the honor of serving as external evaluators for the Father Engagement Training led by Good+Foundation with DCFS social workers. The training helps recognize and address bias against fathers and equips staff to engage fathers as vital parts of the family.

Today, the full report officially launched! Daniel, co-founder of Castillo Consulting Partners, shared key findings with stakeholders.

For the past year and a half, we have been working with both the City of Los Angeles Youth Development Department's Olivia E. Mitchell Youth Council and the Los Angeles County Youth Commission (which are first for both entities) to create customized curricula and training to inform and equip the youth to be responsive and effective leaders in their communities.

Working with each entity separately, we partnered with USC's Sol Price School of Public Policy to bring together the City of Los Angeles, the County of Los Angeles, and the City of Long Beach to create the first-ever Youth Civic Leadership Academy to bring youth leaders from across Los Angeles County to learn about, discuss, and generate youth-driven solutions to their region's most pressing issues.

The Olivia E. Mitchell LA City Youth Council which we have been supporting since its inception is hosting a Virtual Youth Roundtable conversation tomorrow, Thursday, Oct. 27th, from 5pm - 7pm PT. Youth, ages 14-25, from across Los Angeles will gather to be a part of a restorative dialogue to help find solutions to injustice and racism.
