According to legend, Bob Dylan was in the audience and offered his song "Just Like a Woman" to Redding to record but the soul singer declined, saying the song had too many words.

We celebrate John Barbata, born on this day in 1945. Barbata made his mark in rock history playing with The Turtles, who scored the U.S. No. 1 hit “Happy Together.” He later joined Jefferson Starship, contributing on the band’s No. 1 hit “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now.”

Over the years, his powerful drumming also contributed to Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, making him one of the era’s most respected rock drummers.
