Hello community! 🌼 2024 has been marked by deep social & political upheaval, from witnessing multiple genocides, to the murder of Marcellus Williams, to being a charged election year -- we know this impacts how we show up in the workplace and our larger culture. SHIFT is here to remind you that it is possible to create a work culture that centers care, intention, and possibility. The current environment feels like a giant step back for the strides of progress we’ve seen to create a more equitable world. From the attacks on the right to protest in states like Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi; the loss of reproductive rights in Arizona; anti-CRT/DEI movements in over 18 states; and the recent silencing of students and educators organizing across the country - so much of what is happening in our country is interconnected… and unraveling.

It’s terrifying - but something we heard , a brilliant Palestinian-American activist and scholar, say gives us hope: “Justice will come through people.” We believe that solidarity and collective action are a lot stronger than the fear-mongering that our political party leaders use to wield power.

If you have felt the impact of these tactics, let us know. Share how you are moving through it and what resources or support you need, or are currently helping you. Let’s build our collective resources together.

As a small business that is navigating both the silence coming from our industry about the genocide happening in Palestine and the day-to-day hustle of having a business, we are called in and reminded of the myriad of powerful ways for us to be in solidarity with Bisan's strike for Palestine this week of Jan 21- 28th. It’s an opportunity for us to lean into multiplicity and practice of resistance, disruption, and hope as a lifestyle. We share this post in an effort to uplift the ways we can all support this strike -- as business owners and individuals in particular -- and stay resilient in this movement.

We’ve been on an intentional hiatus on here but in light of recent events we feel strongly about the genocide happening in Palestine and the conditions of oppression and occupation that have led up to it.
We ask you to please talk to one another in real life. We implore you to take a systems analysis, and think critically about power, and the structures at play, and how that impacts resources, money, and influence. Do your homework to understand how U.S. colonialism & intervention works, how your positionally matters and is connected to it, and your power to fight systems of oppression & advocate for the oppressed. Please center love & humanity when you do - we are all much more aligned in our humanity than we think. Know that we are all moving through fear, trauma, pain and hurt.
We can speak out against injustice - love our Jewish siblings AND fight for the liberation of Palestinian people. We can condemn Hamas and condemn Israel’s government WHILE not conflating people with leadership. We can call out anti-semitism AND rising Islamophobia. We can denounce violence on all fronts AND recognize how resistance is justified in systems of oppression. We ask you to call your local congressperson and demand an end to the occupation of Palestine, stop the imminent genocide, and call for ceasefire NOW.
We truly all need each other, nothing is done or solved alone.
