Top questions recently:
Should I apply for a new claim?
If you started your claim March 2020, it will end March 2021 meaning you can NOT apply for a new claim until your year ends. If you do go ahead and apply anyway, you will put yourself in ID verification black hole. We need to just wait for EDD to implement their new programs.
Should I apply for PUA?
PUA and regular ui are the same application, so by applying you would have a double claim again. UNLESS you absolutely are sure that your claim year has expired. Claim year expires typically 1 year after you first applied for unemployment benefits.
I don’t see changes reflected on my account?
Yes, because EDD has not yet implemented the programs. The new stimulus was signed last minute, so they are figuring things out to implement all the new provisions.
ID Verification / Fraud
EDD is implementing a new ID verification. Some people got a notice in their inbox that said they will get further instructions BEGINNING January 6. Keyword: beginning. Meaning it’s from that day forward… not everyone will get a notice on the day.
Remaining balance
If you have a remaining balance (and was on PEUC or PUA) you cannot collect because originally those programs had ended, just wait for them to implement the extension and you can continue collecting.
