The first part of a sprinkler system is the supply point. There should be a ball or gate valve at the beginning of the system, to isolate the irrigation system from its source. Meters typically have a shut-off valve on them, but when tapping into other pipes, it’s prudent to install one, as not all backflow preventers have shut-off valves on them. The supply determines the water pressure and flow available to the irrigation system.
