This kind of story is what infuriates me about Hollywood stories. This passage gives away the secret to many successes in the movie business - having a big-name star willing to take meetings and star in your project. But it leaves out HOW Ron Shelton go it to Kevin Costner. That's the really important part!

"The script for 1988’s “Bull Durham,” an unconventional comedy set in the world of minor league baseball, was passed on by every studio in Hollywood. Twice. The second time screenwriter Ron Shelton made the rounds, he was joined by Kevin Costner, who would play the aging catcher Crash Davis. Still nothing."

Insightful story on how Quibi got into the predicament it's in. It lacked the grassroots vibe of TikTok or even Vine, and their fee structure was a bit aggressive (to say the least).

Quibi, the mobile streaming app which is reportedly exploring a sale, couldn't do short-form content as well as TikTok, nor premium video as well as Netflix.

After reading this, it's not hard to envision Roku becoming a takeover target for a company that is both tech and content heavy, such as Sony.

Roku's fortunes have brightened considerably since the COVID-19 pandemic halted production in Hollywood and confined people to their homes.

Remember this quote:
"AMC has denied the claims, including allegations that it engaged in the practice of so-called “self-dealing,” in which studios are accused of selling shows at less than fair market value to networks they own, thereby lowering overall profits left to share with the participants."

As the big agencies increasingly own and produce their clients' material, the battle over conflicts of interest will only increase.

The 'Walking Dead' court cases are being closely watched because they provide a rare glimpse into the typically opaque world of Hollywood accounting.
