Is there a cure for ge***al herpes?
Is there a cure for ge***al herpes? and how do u no if someone has them?

No, there is no cure for herpes. Once people become infected, they will always carry the herpes virus. However, in most cases, outbreaks of herpes become fewer and weaker over the course of a few years. They usually end within five or six years.

People who have recurrences of herpes can take certain medications to help manage the infection. Using herpes treatments can speed up the healing of sores and prevent them from returning frequently. Some herpes treatments also decrease the likelihood of passing the virus on to someone else.

Symptoms of ge***al herpes include

recurring rash with clusters of blistery sores appearing anywhere on the va**na, v***a, cervix, p***s, a**s, buttocks, or elsewhere on the body
pain and discomfort in the ge***al area
itching and burning sensations during urination
However, herpes does not always have symptoms. When someone does have symptoms, the sores can last up to several weeks and then go away.

Herpes is more contagious if an outbreak is present. It’s less likely for the virus to spread if there is no sign of an outbreak. An outbreak or recurrence is most contagious until seven days after sores have completely healed — when not even scabs are visible.

But herpes is also contagious when there are no symptoms. In fact, that’s how most people get infected. That’s why it’s always important to use latex or internal condoms to reduce the risk of infection.

I was just diagnosed with herpes? How can I have s*x and not spread it?

I went to the doctors a few days ago for what I thought was poison oak on my v***a, but the doctor said that she is pretty positive I have ge***al herpes so she gave me a urine test and some cultures. I have not recieved the results yet, but the more I look into information about herpes the more I notice that I have all the symptoms of the intial outbreak. Honestly I am terrified and I feel hurt and very confused. My question is how can I have s*x with my boyfriend or anyone ever again without giving them the virus?

It’s normal to be upset after a herpes diagnosis, but try not to feel bad or get too scared. Herpes is a VERY common infection — millions of people have it, and plenty are still having totally normal relationships and living totally normal lives. Herpes can be painful and annoying, but the good news is it doesn't usually cause serious health problems. And sure, herpes outbreaks are no fun, but the first one is the worst — future outbreaks are usually shorter and less painful. Most people with herpes get fewer outbreaks as time goes on, and some stop having them altogether.

There's no cure for herpes, and it's possible to give the virus to others (whether or not you have symptoms). But luckily there are lots of things you can do to help protect your partners and avoid spreading herpes:

1. Herpes is spread during skin-to-skin contact with infected areas, and it's most contagious during an outbreak — when you have sores that are open, moist, or leaking fluid. So definitely avoid s*x (even with a condom) when you have sores, and anytime you feel an outbreak coming on. Warning signs of an outbreak may include a burning, itching, or tingling feeling. Don’t have s*x until your sores are totally gone — at least 7 days after the sores heal and the scabs fall off.

2. Don’t touch your herpes sores, because you can spread the infection to other parts of your body or other people. If you touch a sore or your ge***als, wash your hands with soap and water right after.

3. Use condoms when you have s*x, even if you feel totally fine. It's possible — but less likely — to spread ge***al herpes when you're not showing any sores or symptoms.

4. Herpes medication can help prevent outbreaks and lower the chances of spreading herpes to your partners. Talk with your doctor about herpes treatments that may be right for you.

Your local Planned Parenthood health center can give you more information about treating herpes and protecting your partners. They may also be able to connect you with support groups in your area.

Please know that a herpes diagnosis is not the end of the world, and there's nothing to be ashamed or embarrassed about. For lots of people, herpes really doesn't end up being a big deal (seriously). You're not alone, and there's plenty of support out there. Read more about living with herpes.

The researchers also found that:

People with SLE who took more than 7.5 milligrams of oral prednisolone per day were 1.59 times more likely to develop a severe HSV infection.
People with SLE and an early, non-severe HSV infection were 2.3 times more likely to develop a severe HSV infection.
People with SLE who received intravenous steroid pulse therapy, or steroid medications into a vein, were 5.3 times more likely to develop a severe HSV infection.
People under 18 years were 55% less likely to develop a severe HSV infection than people ages 18 years and over.

In the same 2019 study, researchers looked at data on 122,520 people — including 24,504 people with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and 98,016 age- and s*x-matched controls without SLE — from the National Health Insurance Research Database in Taiwan to better understand the relationship between SLE and HSV.

They found that people with SLE experienced severe HSV infections at roughly four times the rate of those who didn’t have SLE.

Is a**l herpes contagious?
A**l herpes is contagious. It’s most likely to be transmitted to another person when lesions are present on skin in or around the a**s.

You can get the virus if you have s*xual contact with a person who has the virus. In addition, you can pass the virus to a s*xual partner even when the virus isn’t causing obvious symptoms.

It’s possible not to know you have HSV. Symptoms aren’t always obvious, so you might not realize you have the condition. In that case, you may pass the virus to others without knowing.

Lupus and herpes simplex virus
When people think of herpesvirus, the herpes simplex virus (HSV) is typically what comes to mind. There are two types, HSV-1 and HSV-2, and both can cause oral or ge***al herpes.

According to one 2019 study, people with lupus are more likely to contract HSV than people without it. HSV infections are also more likely to be severe in these individuals.

Severe HSV infections can affect the:

eyes
lungs
liver
gastrointestinal system
central nervous system

Is There a Connection Between Lupus and Herpes?
Herpesviruses use DNA as their genetic material. They don’t cause lupus, but lupus can increase your overall chance of infection.

Lupus is an autoimmune condition, which means that it affects your immune system’s ability to function. Generally speaking, autoimmune conditions can make you more susceptible to infection.

“Lupus, in particular, has been associated with an increased likelihood of several herpesvirus infections,” says Michael Ingber, MD, urologist and female pelvic medicine specialist at The Center for Specialized Women’s Health in New Jersey.

Reduce your risk
Because STIs like HSV are passed during s*xual contact, you can lower your risk by practicing safe s*x. Use these safe s*x measures to reduce your risk:

Wear a condom or LINK: barrier protection during every s*xual encounter, including a**l or oral s*x.
Reduce your number of s*xual partners.
If you’re in a relationship, practice monogamy.
Abstain from s*x altogether.
If you’re s*xually active, ask your doctor to conduct regular STI screenings. Regular testing keeps you and your s*xual partners safe.

Can HSV be cured?
Infections caused by HSV can’t be cured. They are considered a lifelong condition. After the first outbreak, the virus will move to your nerve cells. The virus will stay in your nerve cells for the rest of your life.

Even though the virus is still present in your body, it may be dormant or inactive for long periods of time. Outbreaks are typically triggered by an external factor such as stress, illness, or sun exposure.
