We fabricated and installed a total of 41 windows with 84 individual scenes into the cathedral between the early 1950s and 1960s.

The Los Angeles Central Library celebrates its 100 year anniversary! The library features some of Judson Studios earliest work, the renowned globe chandelier in the rotunda. Designed by Goodhue Associates, modeled by sculptor Lee Lawrie, and executed and installed by Judson Art Glass Company. When completed it weighed one ton.

From LA Public Library: “Dedicated in July 1926, the Los Angeles Central Library became an instant architectural icon and guiding light of learning for the city. For this significant milestone, the Los Angeles Public Library is pleased to present Central 100, a year-long celebration that brings together residents from all corners of Los Angeles.”

Over on our website, we’ve just launched a blog to share more studio updates and industry news. In our inaugural post, studio president David Judson provides a few thoughts on the contemporary new windows commissioned for Notre Dame cathedral in Paris.

“The full-scale maquettes for Notre Dame’s south aisle chapel windows are currently on exhibit at the Grand Palais through March 2026. These new designs have sparked significant controversy in both artistic and preservationist circles. Some are challenging the introduction of contemporary designs in a place of such historic importance, arguing that they overshadow the historic elements. Others support the progress and see the modern development as adding to the historical narrative of the ancient cathedral. When I first heard that Notre Dame had selected the artist Claire Tabouret for its new windows, I immediately supported the decision, confident she was the right person to bridge the historic environment with contemporary art.”

Pictured are works done by Claire Tabouret and Nathan Thelen in collaboration with Judson Studios.

This week we completed the first phase of re-installation at the United States Air Force Academy Cadet Chapel in Colorado Springs, CO. On this initial trip we did a sample set install of a single bay, which is comprised of 70 panels. In total there are 32 bays and over 2,200 panels to install. We’ll be back out to the Cadet Chapel for six more phases to complete the entire installation. It was nice to these panels begin to go in given the immense scope and timeline of this monumental restoration project. We’re only a single trade among the many that have been and are working toward the complete restoration and rebuild of this iconic American architectural structure. More from this project as the year goes on.
