Fun to see the presentation to the board, as well as a standing room only presentation to conference members. Here are a few of our very talented people on the task force.

With OJ’s passing, I was reminded of those busy months when his criminal trial was in progress. It was long. Every time they lost a juror, CNN called for comment. KCAL gave me an occasional seat in the courtroom. Seeing OJ view his DNA on the lighted boards that took up the entire well was enlightening. As was watching the jurors during Johnny Cochran’s closing. Running a shadow jury with deliberations for Chuck Rosenberg, the daily host for E! was on point. Chuck was the only host to boldly predict that OJ would be acquitted. Before the verdict, I was transported by limo to the courthouse to describe the deliberation process. Ultimately, the real jury verdict was the same as our mock jurors’ verdict.

Today, the Trial of the Century is overshadowed as a criminal trial against a former president goes forward.

How does “Implicit Bias” intersect with civility in the courts? Implicit Bias is on the tongues of most lawyers today as elimination of bias is now a requirement for MCLE in CA. However, are lawyers’ actions following suit? Panel discussion with Hon André Birotte, Hon. Rupert Byrdsong, Hon. Brian S. Currey, and Hon. The CA Civility Task Force Report notes that implicit bias is part of the problem with incivility. It is with this portion of the document that I add psychological insight to understand implicit bias. I’ve shared my article with the program materials.
