Holding The Photo Hustle inside in Portland was such a surreal moment.

I wrote this book to help photographers understand the part no one teaches you: the business side of creativity. Contracts. Pitches. Portfolios. The behind-the-scenes politics that actually move your career forward.

💡 My dream? For this book to land not only in photographers’ hands, but also in classrooms, as part of business courses where future creatives are being trained.

✨ In October I’ll be launching the licensed online version to pair with the book. Teachers and schools can use it in their curriculum, and photographers can join the waitlist today to be first in line.

🙏 Thank you for supporting my work. Manifesting a book signing here one day.

📸 Photographers, teachers, schools: the waitlist link is in my bio.

Global Survey Launches to Assess the Current State of the Photography Industry

An ambitious, wide-reaching research initiative from and aims to uncover key insights into the health and diversity of professional photographic practice worldwide.

A major new research study has been launched to assess the current state of the photography industry through a comprehensive global survey of professional photographers.

The results, set to be published in an executive summary in Summer 2025, will provide an unprecedented benchmark for understanding the evolving landscape of photographic practice.

At a time when many in the industry face economic and professional uncertainty, this study seeks to provide clarity and insight into trends across genres, markets, and experience levels. It will gather data on income, market size, years of experience, gender, racial identity, and photographic genre. This information will be cross analyzed with rates charged, net income, and overall perceptions of industry health.

“While there have been various attempts to survey niche aspects of the photography industry, this study represents the first of its scale and scope,” said project lead, Heather Morton ().

This survey aims to provide a deeper, more nuanced analysis. “We hope the findings can be a catalyst for greater transparency and support across the industry.”
All professional photographers are encouraged to participate.

The survey is anonymous and entirely voluntary.

This study has been reviewed by the Sheridan Research Ethics Board and received ethics clearance: SREB No. 2025-03-001-005

Survey closes June 15th.
