SUMMER RERUNS CONTINUE! The HBO screening of True Detective at the Director's Guild of America in Los Angeles could not have found the more perfect designer than Billy Butchkavitz to coax the subtle nuances of the HBO series out into the world in all their dark glory.

Our Sr. Lighting Designer Curt Stahl cast shadows of trees over the entire space – bare branch projections that extended the bare branches of of two art backdrops as well as a forest of winter trees. In the forest, a creepy murder scene was a photo opportunity for true fans of True Detective.

"Billy wanted the lighting moody,“ Stahl says “We used shades of blue and lavender and hid the light fixtures from the top rigging of the trees as well as front and side lighting.”

SUMMER RERUNS! We're looking back at some of our favorite HBO premieres starting with "Big Little Lies." We filled the venue with golden light to reflect the show's California seaside summer vibes.

Event Designer Billy Butchkavitz recreated he beachy vibe of Monterey in the ballroom of the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. While our Sr. Lighting Designer Curt Stahl washed the room in honey-colored light, the back wall was transformed into a French window looking out onto the shoreline with a projection by Bart Kresa.

In the hotel atrium, our team gave Billy's beach house deck leafy shadows of light to emulate rays of sun through trees.

MINI EVENT PROFILE || Big Sky Montana! Our team, led by Sr. Lighting designer Curt Stahl provided lighting over two days of wedding-related events. There was a lot to celebrate -- the first day was the wedding and the second day was more of the casual continued reception. It was also the groom's birthday.

Both events used the tent in the pictures you see, as well as the adjacent room called the barn that is normally used as a dining room for breakfast and lunch. We provided all lighting for both areas.

For the wedding the tent was used for the ceremony and changed over for cocktails and the barn was used for dinner. The second day the tent was used for buffets and lounge seating and the barn was primarily used for entertainment, dancing and a large circular bar was installed across from the stage.

Both days the guests utilized The Saloon that was used for pre function activities, welcome reception, etc. We highlighted specific elements and areas such as the BBQ stations, birthday cake and games. We matched the existing stringer lights at the outdoor patio to expand this area with additional stringers over picnic dining areas.

Curt worked with the house electrician to program the existing lighting controls to fit the event levels as well as re-lamp fixtures and add dimming in areas.

The result was spectacular. Congrats to couple and the creative team!

An epic week of meetings of the mind as the event team gathered each day of a five-day installation. The 4,000-person event for the gala for the took place with performances on the field and a pre-show event in a 50,000-square-foot tent. Amid the blueprints, the forklifts and crew lunches, there was joy, tension, challenges, brilliance, chandeliers, Usher and above all else, camaraderie. Thanks you for including us this experience. Let's do it again!

Where are you sailing off to this summer? Taking a three-hour tour, perhaps? No creative detail was "cast away" at this event -- winter white floral, rattan chairs and long wood tables. The ballroom was completely draped which enabled us to create a sexy island vibe with a changing color palette of projections.

Our French travel dreams turn real! This week we go from a Paris themed event in California to actual events in France. A look back to an amazing time as part of the team creating a memorable 25th anniversary.

Starting at the end of a seven day production: A tent set up in a vineyard of Michelangelo's Restaurant in Antibes. The next two are images from the first night on a yacht in Monaco and the last image is from the main event on the pier in St. Tropez.

With three events over seven days, six of them were all production. It was a heavy schedule due to the travel between the first night in Monaco, the main event in St. Tropez and the final night in Antibes. “We had to always stay a day ahead of the parties and with the complexity of the events, this was a 24-hour non-stop installation,” lighting director recalls.
