about artist Maria Sibylla Merian on Earth Day:

1. She was one of the first naturalists to observe insects directly (Born: 1647).
2. She started to collect insects as an adolescent and at age thirteen she raised silk worms.
3. She trained her two daughters, Dorothea and Johanna, to make different versions of her designs.

I guess we all “got it from our mama.”

"Listen, my children, and you shall hear⁣
Of the midnight ride of Paul Revere,⁣
On the eighteenth of April, in Seventy-Five:⁣
Hardly a man is now alive ⁣
Who remembers that famous day and year."⁣
(excerpt from Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's poem, "Paul Revere's Ride")⁣

in 1775, silversmith Paul Revere rode on his horse to alert the Colonial militia of the coming of British forces before the battles of Lexington and Concord, Mass. ⁣

Paul Revere's patriotism with "a cry of defiance, and not of fear" is forever honored.⁣

Our hearts break for the people of France and the damage the magnificent Notre Dame sustained yesterday.

The Notre Dame has survived eight centuries and two world wars, and is a symbol to France and the world of art and history. While we rebuild together, let us remember that this symbol of unity remains untouched. We stand with you, Paris.
