Design and Dance - Today I participated in my first Kayamanan Ng Lahi production on stage “Simula: A New Beginning” at - a historic outdoor venue across the 101 freeway from the Hollywood Bowl.

Kayamanan Ng Lahi (KNL)—translated as treasures of our people—promotes cultural understanding & artistic expression through Philippine folk art and dance. Simula means "beginning," and we explored the idea of a new beginning represented by the universal symbol of the butterfly. As the butterfly grows and transforms through the different stages of life, we were taken along for the journey – finding connections with our own identity as Filipino Americans in the diaspora. Each stage was a tapestry of dance, music, and poetry, woven in classic KNL style & storytelling.

Not only did I have a chance to dance, but I also had the opportunity to lead and choreograph a small and mighty Marketing team of KNL volunteers and performers. Providing Creative Direction on Event Branding, we designed and produced creative assets (photos, graphics, and videos) and developed marketing strategies for email, social media and outreach.

Some of the things we accomplished:
• Photoshoot with our dancers photographed by .io
• Built an Event Web Landing Page: www.kayamanan.org/ford
• Executed a “guerilla” social media PR activation
• Developed a Media Kit for our KNL members, so that we would easily empower them to share about the show with their family and friends
• Built an online show program: www.kayamanan.org/simula

I’m immensely proud of our team and what we accomplished in about 6 weeks and a shoe-string budget. The results: A nearly packed house (ticket sales just shy of the 1200 capacity) filled with such a joyous audience - who braved the early LA summer heat - to enjoy our show!
