We were honored to attend the 55th LABC Awards and accept the Architectural Award in the Renovated Buildings category for our work on The Japanese Institute of Sawtelle.
Reinvesting in culturally significant buildings, especially those with humble origins, is vital not only to preserving Los Angeles’ existing building stock but also to sustaining the cultural legacies of the diverse communities that have shaped the city.
Congratulations to our project partners, Studio SUPERNATURAL and NOUS Engineering, as well as all the nominees and winners!
“This project exemplifies a vision for gracefully renovating Los Angeles’ existing building stock, proposing a radical transformation of a humble yet historically and culturally significant building by introducing a culturally relevant and modern design that honors both the legacy and future of the Japanese American community’s resilience and presence in West Los Angeles.” –LABC
