The Power of Intention!
We had a casual gathering in the Amin Leadership Center to check in with some of the previous workshop participants. My intention for the invitation was to see each other and reconnect. After all checked in and gave some updates about themselves and where they were in their lives, 2 themes showed up: 1) change is painful
2) the need for belonging and feeling connected
A week later we had a 11/2 hour"Walk with the Angels" with 12 participants on Ocean Ave in Santa Monica.
To prepare for the walk I did some research on the power of the community and found two important criteria for building a sustainable community of choice:
1. to satisfy the need for belonging
2. to support the need for self-expression
Having the above intentions, and sharing them in a 10 minutes talk in the circle of 12, we paired up randomly to walk for an hour and talk about "why did you accept the invitation to Walk with the Angels?" in the context of active listening.
At the end we gathered in circle and shared our experiences. Amazingly all of us shared about our perfect company, and the profound self-expressed connection that we have made with each other (some of the pairs met each other for the first time)!
Thanks to all of you who came. We will do it again and will keep you posted!
