PERSPECTIVES (August 2012)
SUMMARY/tldr :: In photography, in relationships, and in life, your witting and unwitting perspective is a powerful thing. It drives all of your behaviors and what you think is possible. ::
A few years ago, my cousin said she'd come over and practice shooting with me. She was relatively new to photography and wanted to learn how to use her camera. I hadn't imagined being her subject. Two hours before her shoot, I let go of my objections if she promised not to post it on Facebook.
I kind of assumed the pictures were going to be terrible because I was the subject. At the end, she gave me a copy of all the raws. The photos sat dormant in my computer without review. They sat there for almost 3 years without review because I assumed the worst.
And one day, I decided to do spring cleaning on my computer and stumbled on them. I decided I was going to look before I deleted. And then I saw a few photos that had some potential. So I added some color, rotated...some light editing in Lightroom and the photos were reimagined.
Here are one of the photos. I've included the original photo for reference. Another example that perspective is EVERYTHING. Suspending one perspective (i.e. photos with me in them are blah) to entertain other perspectives (i.e. I wonder if...) can yield completely different outcomes.
In photography, in relationships, and in life, your witting and unwitting perspective is a powerful thing. It drives all of your behaviors and what you think is possible.
