This morning, Mark Zuckerberg announced via the Meta Channel that Meta Verified has officially started to roll out in the U.S. Shortly after, Adam Mosseri (Head of Instagram) posted a Reel of his own and gave us a few more details. Most notably, he assured us that they listened to our feedback and concerns, specifically about the increased reach that was promised to come with a Meta Verified subscription.
Adam mentioned that Meta will take a step back and not include increased reach in the U.S. rollout (for now, anyway). We can't help but wonder if the original goal was to use the promise of increased reach to better compete with search platforms like Google. We know that people have long been utilizing Instagram as a search tool, and we wonder if 'increased visibility across search and explore' was going to operate on a similar model as paid search.
As a reminder, Meta Verified will only be available for creator accounts in this iteration, but we expect to see an expansion to business accounts in the very near future.
