Open rates. Click rates. Conversion hacks. The next funnel. The next trend. The next thing that would finally crack the code.

Charles Gaudet lived inside that world. Built it. Ran it. Optimized it.

And couldn’t sleep at night.

Then things got much worse. Driving alone one night the pain got so heavy he found himself hoping someone would hit him head on. Just to end it.

He made it home. Sat in the silence. And heard himself saying thank you. Over and over. Without knowing why.

That thank you changed everything.

In this episode Charles reveals how gratitude became the strategic tool that rebuilt his business, his clients’ businesses, and how 87% of them had their best year ever during COVID in the hardest hit industries in the world.

We expect business growth to fix everything.
So why does it keep creating more problems?

Because most businesses are built on tactics that work only now… until they suddenly don’t.

helped build that entire machine — funnels, conversions, growth hacks.
And still couldn’t sleep at night.

What he discovered at rock bottom changed how he builds businesses forever.

After selling my company to Bill Gates, I assumed I understood how success worked.

When I started the next thing I did what many founders do: I looked for the next system.
Courses. Masterminds. Funnels. Coaches.

More than $150,000 later, I realized something painful.

I wasn’t searching for strategy.
I was searching for a shortcut. The one thing that would make it all work quickly. Ultimately I realized I was looking for a shortcut around the inner work.

My constraint wasn’t tactics. It was the gap between what I said I believed and how I was building my business.

In this article, I share these lessons that came from that realization — through a difficult personal reckoning, an Ayahuasca journey, losing our home in the Palisades fire, and conversations with internet marketing veteran Charles Gaudet about the cost of chasing tactics without alignment.

One takeaway stands out:

You cannot scale past your own ceiling.
And that ceiling is almost always internal.

If you’re a founder, leader, or builder who feels like the strategies are there but something still isn’t clicking, this perspective may resonate.

I’d be curious to hear from you:
Where has inner work changed how you lead or build?

passed out at 65 miles per hour on a highway.

Not that moment. Not the ER. Not the 20 years of deadlines, missed meals, and pushing through — that wasn’t the hardest part.

The hardest part was deciding she was actually allowed to stop.
“The permission to break through was harder than the breakthrough itself.”

That hit me hard when she said it. Because so many of us are waiting for something to force the stop instead of choosing it ourselves.

This conversation is one you need to hear. Melinda shares what that moment cracked open — and what she built from it.

Have you ever waited too long to give yourself permission to stop? 🤍

Some things your body will only say once.
I learned that on January 7th in the emergency room. Melinda Colón learned it at 65 miles per hour on a highway in rush hour traffic when she passed out behind the wheel.

We had both been too busy to listen.

Nearly 20 years in corporate America had taught Melinda that pushing through was the price of success. Until her body decided it wasn’t paying anymore.

From that moment on she decided that it she needed to rebuild everything from the inside out. Today she helps established business owners create predictable recurring revenue through large contracts. A business designed around who she actually is. Not who she was performing.

Burnout is sneaky. First it is a whisper and then it’s screaming.

And most of us are very good at turning down the volume.
I adjusted around the signs for weeks. Kept going. Told myself after this week. After this deadline.

Until January 7th — the anniversary of the Palisades Fire — when my body made the decision for me. 12:30AM. ER. Emergency surgery. Acute pancreatitis.

We don’t burn out because we’re weak. We burn out because we’ve built an identity around never stopping. We change jobs, we blame it on demanding bosses. What can you do?

I talked about this with Melinda Colon on The Business Growth Architect Show - Founders of the Future — she passed out going 65 miles per hours. She shares what she did.

I am in disbelief of what I see. The division, the hatred, the tears. Lives destroyed, economic recklessness and it seems that our executive branch is failing. Remember the law of polarity. What exists on one side must exist on the other. Go find it. Founders of the Future don’t fix the past. We design the future we want to live in. Bullies only know how to burn s**t to the ground. They don’t know how to build. Creators do. Focus on creating.
