Hi, I’m Brittany—the founder and lead planner behind Vela Event Design. 🤍

My career in events began more than a decade ago, planning and executing large-scale experiences at Rose Bowl Stadium and House of Blues. I later continued that work with the Los Angeles Rams at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and SoFi Stadium, creating events and premium experiences for members and fans.

Those years taught me how to navigate complex logistics, anticipate needs, remain calm under pressure, and bring every moving piece together with care. More than anything, they showed me how a thoughtfully planned experience can make people feel.

Planning my own wedding made that passion even more personal. It reminded me how meaningful this season can be—and how quickly the excitement can become overshadowed by decisions, deadlines, and pressure. That experience ultimately inspired me to create Vela Event Design.

As a planner, I bring a balance of heart and structure to everything I do. I’m organized, detail-oriented, calm in complex situations, and deeply invested in helping couples feel supported. My goal is to be someone they can trust to guide the process, protect the details, and help them remain present for this meaningful chapter.

One of my favorite wedding-day moments is being with the bride just before she walks down the aisle—adjusting her train or veil, making sure she feels completely ready, and creating a sense of calm before everything begins.

When I’m not planning celebrations, you can usually find me with my husband and family, taking Timber—our Goldendoodle—to the beach, trying a local restaurant, or heading out on a road trip.

We believe a wedding photographer’s expertise is found in the thoughtful details they notice and capture without prompting.

When you're interviewing photographers, their experience and mastery of the craft mean a thoughtful shot list should already be part of how they work — it's part of what makes the day feel seamless.

If you'd love a little extra confidence in that decision, here's a question we love: ask exactly what they'd include on a shot list of their own, and ask to see their most recent albums from real couples. It's a wonderful, gentle way to see their knowledge and intention in action.

But beyond that standard list, it's worth thinking through the shots that are just for you. When we sat down with our photographer, we asked for a few things that fell outside the typical shot list — moments personal to our story rather than expected on paper. Extra time with me and my grandmothers, joyful candids of our flower girl and ring bearer, and photos with the friends who mean the most to us. Beautiful celebrations are built with heart and thoughtful detail, right down to the shot list.

Wedding dress shopping can feel overwhelming, especially when you haven’t found the dress you always imagined—or one that truly feels like you.

My best advice: give yourself time, stay open-minded, and don’t feel pressured to settle.

Start by finding bridal salons that carry designers and styles you’re naturally drawn to. As you try on different gowns, pay attention to the details you love—and the ones you don’t. Each appointment will bring you closer to understanding what feels most authentic to you.

For me, I realized I wanted appliqué, texture, and thoughtful detailing rather than a more understated bodice. Once I understood that, everything began to come together.

Keep following your instincts. The right dress has a way of making every other option fade into the background.

I fell completely in love with mine, and I still can’t imagine wearing anything else on our wedding day. 🤍

Starting a new wedding DIY project and I’m very excited about this one 🎨✨

I found these canvases at an auction house and decided to reuse them for our wedding and wedding weekend signage!

The first step was taping the frame, then adding a coat of gesso, which is an important primer because it helps seal the canvas, stiffen the surface, and create the texture needed for painting. Next up is another coat, and then I’ll start on the design.

This weekend, Kelan and I had our venue walk-through at our wedding venue, the beautiful Vega Vineyard and Farm in Santa Ynez Valley, and it was such a special experience 💗 We put together a mock tablescape with our florals and sand candles, and getting to see everything start to take shape in the space made it all feel that much more real. I also created our floral arrangements for the walk-through, and of course we included Vela’s Luxury Sand Candles as part of the design. It was the most beautiful weekend, and I already cannot wait to see our wedding day come together in June ✨
