CA Home+Design explores Philpotts Interiors’ unique take on lakeside living with a plunge into this Pacific Northwest Residence.

“We design interiors with a deep respect for a property’s unique place in the world,” says Senior Designer Anne Tanaka. The Hawaii-based firm leaned on this philosophy when designing the 5,500-square-foot home, which allows the homeowners to enjoy the area’s natural beauty all year round.

In her own home, lovingly named ‘Āhuimanu or “gathering of birds” in Hawaiian, Mary Philpotts, the founder of Philpotts Interiors, fittingly created a lush tropical oasis.

This month’s HILuxury Magazine looks back at the many decades she lived there and how the home became a “living archive of Mary’s tastes, travels, and friendships. Vintage ‘ukulele could be found balanced above cabinets or tucked alongside antique furniture. Heirloom calabashes shared shelf space with bowls made by friends. Paintings by Pegge Hopper, Madge Tennent, and John Kelly hung near books on Hawaiian history alongside stacks of various curios that Mary collected over the years.”
